I am awaiting the sunrise
Gazing modestly through the coldest morning
Once it came you lied
Embracing us over autumn´s proud treetops

I stand motionless
In a parade of falling rain
You voice I cannot hear
As I am falling again

Devotion eludes
And in sadness I lumber
In my own ashes I am standing without a soul
She wept and whispered: "I know"

We walked into the night
Am I to bid you farewell?

Why can't you see that I try
When every tear I shed
Is for you?

General Comment:Whenever I listen to this song I have the impression that it could last longer, it seems like it ends all of a sudden. Superb song anyway. The jazz guitar part is just awesome, can't stop listening. The acoustic guitars are great, just like in most of Opeth's songs, but this one is especial. The heavy part is utter awesomeness as well.

General Comment:About the relationship which might end and when he isn't really sure if they will split.

We walked into the night could mean they walked into the unknown.

    I like Opeth's poetic lines.

General Comment:I'm sorry but you are all wrong.
    They are musicians.
    And they create music.

    That's kind of sad...

General Comment:Opeth are definitely progressive/blackened/death/funeral/thrash/folk/acoustic/groove/speed/doom/popcore metal (you need to have a core in their somewhere)

General Comment:I would simply call Opeth progressive death metal, for the most part.

    Morningrise is the shit!

General Comment:As someone had already said some 5 years ago in this forum, this is the song that got me into Opeth. At that time, I had a block against growling and metal in general. But I heard this song and I was so moved by it. It was about the same time Opeth came out with the Damnation album. So I listened to all their tracks.
Finally, I tried listening to some heavier songs. It was difficult initially, but I listened to it anyway, just because it was Opeth. Now, a couple of years later, my favorite songs of all time include Deliverance, When, Funeral Portrait etc... And i owe it all to "To Bid You Farewell"

General Comment:This song is one of Opeth's greatest. Has one of the biggest displays of emotion i have ever seen. The guitars complement eachother perfectly. Whenever the first heavy part comes in, the part when Mikael sings "devotion alludes..." my whole body just gets tingly. seriously one of themost beautifully sad guitar harmonies ever played.

General Comment:this song gives the impression of not being able to come to terms with loss, amongst other things. but that theme stands out for me, for... reasons.
but "to bid you farewell", the line just resonates in questioning, as if the character speaking isn't sure if he should really give up and bid his love farewell.
