Lyrics for Lover, You Should've Come Over as interpreted by fallen_crow05

Lover, You Should've Come Over Lyrics
Looking out the door i see the rain fall upon the funeral mourners
Parading in a wake of sad relations as their shoes fill up with water
And maybe i'm too young to keep good love from going wrong
But tonight you're on my mind so you never know

Broken down and hungry for your love with no way to feed it
Where are you tonight, child you know how much i need it
Too young to hold on and too old to just break free and run

Sometimes a man gets carried away, when he feels like he should be having his fun
And much too blind to see the damage he's done
Sometimes a man must awake to find that really, he has no-one

So i'll wait for you and i'll burn
Will I ever see your sweet return
Oh will I ever learn

Oh lover, you should've come over
'Cause it's not too late

Lonely is the room, the bed is made, the open window lets the rain in
Burning in the corner is the only one who dreams he had you with him
My body turns and yearns for a sleep that will never come

It's never over, my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder
It's never over, all my riches for her smiles when i slept so soft against her
It's never over, all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter
It's never over, she's the tear that hangs inside my soul forever

Well maybe i'm just too young
To keep good love from going wrong

Oh... lover, you should've come over
'Cause it's not too late

Well I feel too young to hold on
And i'm much too old to break free and run
Too deaf, dumb, and blind to see the damage i've done
Sweet lover, you should've come over
Oh, love well i'm waiting for you

Lover, you should've come over
'Cause it's not too late

My favorite song right now because so many people don't realize the damage they've done and feel like they have no one. I realized my damage and I'm sorry to where I'd rather be alone than with someone other than her, lover should come over.

just a note to anyone who loves this song. buy the 180g vinyl repressing of Grace. that album was MEANT to be on LP. it has literally brought several of my friends to tears. it's an amazing amazing experience to hear my all-time favorite vocalist on beautiful vinyl.

One of the most beautiful and intense songs I've ever heard. You can just feel the sadness. "...my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder", haven't we all felt like that for someone at some point in our lives? A true musical artist (unlike the pop/hiphop crap nowadays), why did he have to die so young?

i take a few things from it.
- a tragic sense of longing
- great loss
- the ending refrain, "it's never over...". just the idea that something can be lost but no one can take away the memories and feelings. eternal love.

I read that he wrote the song about Rebecca Moore, his one time girlfriend. The song means a lot to me. It used to break my heart to listen to it - reminded me of a time when i was totally in love with a girl but we couldn't be together because of my personal circumstances. Happily, we are together now, but it still bears a heavy weight on my chest when i hear it....which to be honest is quite often.

As a side topic, anyone heard "A Body Goes Down" by Duncan Sheik? Never heard of him before but recently heard this song which is a tribute to Jeff Buckley (the title is an obvious reference to his death). Beautiful song and lyrics which all Jeff fans will appreciate.

"A body goes down, in the missippi waters,
weighted by a beauty, afraid of his light,
Notify your holy men, console your sons and daughters,
tell me one more time,
what is just, what is right"

Actually, i guess i could find and post the whole lyric under Duncan Sheik as it's not there!

It breaks my heart to hear it everytime, its a song by a man, about being a man, about vanity and pride, about that dull ache of pining for that one person that everybody meets that you believe is the one. And when the intensity burns both lovers....both are left drowning in a sea of regret...it hurts to hear that song it really does. Reminds me how I lost the love of my life...

I said that exact same thing tonight, TitleTrack.
My flatmate and I were listening to this song, and I said "I wish someone had written this song for me."

So there really are romantic girls in existence! Probably nowhere near London though, huh? I sang this to a girl, probably, not as well as jeff admittedly, but the best performance ive heard live and she said "nice idea but it was a bit long and downbeat"; shes dumped!

Such a beautiful, beautiful song.

When Jeff sings, "Sometimes a man gets carried away, when he feels like he should be having his fun," is he implying that he left her so he could "have fun" and drink and be a man and bed many women? Then, does he realize that that kind of lifestyle, he "awake[s] to find that really, he has no one"?

That's the way that I interpreted it... A man leaves his girlfriend for freedom, for the pursuit of all "fun" and manly things, only to find that it leaves him empty. It doesn't fill him up the way his lover did.

Is there anything I missed/misinterpreted?

Song has never made me sad at all. If anything it sounds opptimistic. More like a man eagerly waiting the return of a love that he messed up in the past.

He's regretting being so immatureand probably wrote about it 'cos the guilt was eating him up, I love the beginning of the song, where he describes a funeral and then he changes the subject and moves onto how he's feelin' bad about hurting some chick's feelings, like he doesn't give a s**t! Yeh, I love this track!!!!
