wrap me up in always, and drag me in with maybes
your innocence is treasure, your innocence is death
your innocence is all i have
breathing underwater, and living under glass
and if you spin your love around
the secrets of your dreams
you may find your love is gone
and is not quite what it seemed
to appear to disappear
beneath all your darkest fears
i believe in never, i believe in all the way
but belief is not to notice, believe is just some faith
and faith can't help you to escape
and with this ring i wed thee true
and with this ring i wed thee now
and with this ring i play so dead
but no one's asking for the truth, so let me tell you
if you spin your love around
the secrets of your dreams
you may find your love is gone
and is not quite what it seemed
to appear to disappear
beneath all your darkest fears
to the revelations of fresh faced youth
no one will come to save you
so speak your peace in the murmurs drawn
but youth is wasted on the young
your strength is my weakness, your weakness my hate
my love for you just can't explain
why we're forever frozen, forever beautiful,
forever lost inside ourselves
the night has come to hold us young

General Comment:This song speaks a failure in transcendence. It carries a depth of melancholy, like most Smashing Pumpkin songs. The ending is rather unsettling. It's perfect, right now, because as I write this, I'm also frozen in place. Times like this call me towards The Smashing Pumpkins. It's not okay, while all-okay at the very same time. The poetry of this song is unbelievable & the music is in sync with this beauty. What this song is about is entirely up to you.

General Comment:I've ofter wondered if the term "through the eyes of ruby" was just another way of saying "through bloodshot eyes" as if someone has been crying. The first line, "Wrap me up in always and drag me in with maybes", sounds a lot like what happens in a young couples arguments. They tend to say things like, "you always do this', or "maybe if you did that". I think we as the listeners are coming in at the end of a dreadful argument and are witness to it's sad climax.

General Comment:i use to just listen to the melodies of sp's songs. today i read the lyrics. I must say through the eyes of ruby is like that. It could have so many different ways of interpretation. Nobody would be wrong. So i'm just gonna tell you the lines i like the best. he says " I believe in never, i believe in all the way." So he is saying he believes in nothing but at the same time he believe all the way. This is contradicting. Then he explains himself. He says belief is not to notice. When you believe in something, you usually just look out for your point of view. An example is the church. And what do they say believers have faith. Now remember he said i believe in never, i believe in all the way, so he saying beliefs are meaningless. 33 used to be my favorite song when i was just listening to the melodies. Now tteor is my new favorite. Now i can go over the lyrics to Adore, which is my favorite pumpkins cd.

Song Meaning:Ya know, Billy tends to use references to relationships and love often, but I don't really think that he actually means that literally for the most part. I think it is meant to be metaphorical. Especially in this song. I think the song is more or less about growing and maturing as a person and realizing that things that you loved and had faith in and believed as a child are not as you perceived them. This is a young man going through a revelation and realizing that things aren't they way he thought they were. Your wants and desires as a child are things you no longer long for. The way the music starts, this kinda simple but happy piano melody such as the mind of a child, the innocence. That gives way to to a slightly more ambiguous sounding melody then goes right into a heavy part. I think it is mirroring the authors feelings. Like going form happy and innocent to questioning to then anger and as the song evolves i think the music reflects feelings of bitterness and despair. then the end the acoustic fade out its almost a statement of giving up. like its just sad, but he realizes that nothing can change and this is just how his life is and has to except it. I really like the line "breathing underwater, living under glass" its like saying how as a child you really dont have a good view of the world around you, and even may be a bit sheltered from 'reality'. Your imagination is limitless as a kid and possibilities are endless. "your innocence is treasure, your innocence is death" its like your ignorance is what is going to kill your human spirit when you finally realize how life works. As a side note. This is probably one of the very first songs I ever truly fell in love whit. I remember I was a young teen when this album came out, it was the very first one I had ever bought. I still own and it listen to it, the very same copy. I still remember the first time I heard this song. I was so blown away. The idea of epic songs, though not original by that time, to me it was really my first experience with one. its crazy to think that that was 15 years ago. I kinda wish I had followed the advice of this song. But ah, so young and ignorant.

General Comment:Ok.. somewhat off the subject here and i know the song is semi old by now...but like the last 45 seconds of the song, it fades into a acoustical ballad that just ends too soon for me,. and in MY opinion that woulda easily scored ANOTHER hit for TSP...to me its like..ughh....whyd you fade out? i was just getting the groove of that track..lol
