Lyrics for Big Cheese as interpreted by Sliver428

Big Cheese Lyrics
Big cheese - make me
Mike says, "Go [to] the office"

Big cheese - make me
Mike says, "One that stays"

Night is black, [no] trading back
Evil in the east

Sure you are, but what am I? (Alt: Show you all what a man is)
We were enemies

Being lies - make mine
Mine says "Go [to] the office"

Big cheese - make me
Message? What is it?

Black is black, straight back

Need more enemies
She eats glue, how 'bout you? (Alt: She is glue, how are you?)

Big cheese - make me
Mine says "Go [to] the office"

Big cheese - make me
Message? What is it?

Black is black, straight back
We were enemies
She eats glue, how 'bout you? (Alt: She is glue, how are you?)

Black is black, straight back
We were enemies
Sure you are, but what am I?
We were enemies
She eats glue, how 'bout you? (Alt: She is glue, how are you?)
We were enemies
Sure you are, but what am I?

When he says "Sure you are, but what am I?", it reminds me of when Pee Wee Herman would say, "I know you are, but what am I?"

This song was written about the two Sub Pop owners (Poneman and Pavitt), it was later added to Bleach when it was re-released when they signed to DGC.

More just about Poneman and the "pressures he felt from him ....because he was being so judgmental about what we were recording."

The song is about not wanting to follow god's fucking orders. That's a real bitch when you discover that you're god.

What am I? I am nothing... black, straight back... take a look and see for you yourself!

she is glue? is that why he feels stuck here?

good thing he found a way out =) luck bastard.. I'm still chasing "Her"

I'm not really the bringer of light, I just play one in the world of darkness.

I wonder if anyone was actually smart enough to actually ask the band menbers about the songs, I know that Dave wasn't added in the group untill later so why don't people ask the previous members?

If you'd asked me what it was about the first time I'd heard it, I'd say it's about school.

"Black is black
No trading back."

Sounds like something an elementary kid would say.

"Go to the office."

What office does that make you think of?

I know I'm probably wrong, but it sounds like it's about school.

It was about Sub Pop, and the pressures they put on the band.

It was first released on the Love Buzz Single.

I thought this was an anti-corporate statement. I always thought 'evil in the east' was referring to NYC, the center of the financial world.
