Well, this life that I've live has took me everywhere
There ain't no place I ain't never gone
But it's kind of like the saying that you heard so many times
Well, there just ain't no place like home

Did you ever see a she-gator protect her young
Or a fish in a river swimming free?
Did you ever see the beauty of the hills of Carolina
Or the sweetness of the grass in Tennessee?

And, Lord, I can't make any changes
All I can do is write 'em in a song
'Cause I can see the concrete slowly creepin'
Lord, take me and mine before that comes

Would you like to see a mountain stream a-flowin'?
Would you like to see a youngin' with his dog
Did you ever stop to think about, well, the air your breathin'?
Well, you better listen to my song

And, Lord, I can't make any changes
All I can do is write 'em in a song
Yes but I can see the concrete slowly creepin'
Lord, take me and mine before that comes

I'm not tryin' to put down no big cities
But the things they write about us is just a bore
Well, you can take a boy out of ol' dixieland
Lord but you'll never take ol' dixie from a boy

And, Lord, I can't make any changes
All I can do is write 'em in a song
Yes but I can see the concrete slowly creepin'
Lord, take me and mine before that comes
'Cause I can see the concrete slowly creepin'
Lord, take me and mine before that comes

General Comment:Its kind of funny that people say they are for white trash. I mean, I have have 1 1/2 inch gauges in my ears and I went and saw these guys. greatest experience of my life.

General Comment:He is talking about big biz and cities taking over everything. Replacing fresh clean air with more smog filled air from cars and replacing beautiful valleys and trees with a mall. Turning the beautiful Earth into a concrete jungle. And he hopes he is dead before that happens.

General Comment:First of all, I resent the "white trashed based crowd" remark. I went to see one of their shows in West Palm Beach about two or three years ago. My friends and I had a blast...and none of us are white trash (trust me, I know white trash when I see it...hell, plenty of my relatives could be labeled as such). I didn't see much white trash there at all, at least no more than any other rock concert. So have fun up there on your high horse, just know than when you fall off, they say it hurts like hell.

As for the song, it's easily one of my favorites. I live in rural South Florida, and I love just riding around the backroads alongside the cow pastures, cane fields, flag ponds, cypress swamps, and rivers. I only live about an hour from Miami and the handful of times that I went, I could not get home soon enough. The South is a beautiful place, which happens to get very little snow (or in my case, no snow at all). Because of that, we have to deal with the whole "second northern invasion" on our homeland. Every time you turn around, a beautiful piece of land is being torn down for housing and business. That could be acceptable if it were done only because people needed a place to live, but when the majority of the people moving here already have a hometown (they just don't like the weather there), then it really bites my ass. The little town I live in will probably end up the same way about ten years from now, so I might move up to the panhandle somewhere. After that, I'm staying put, and as Ronnie said, I hope that concrete doesn't start creepin' up there before I'm gone.

General Comment:"I seriously think about moving into the country after hearing this song."

I pretty much live in the country anyways, but this song makes me want to move further out in the country, too :)

General Comment:I agree with both of you. They aren't sold out, but they need to quit. Five replacement members is too much and now they have gone from drawing all kinds of crowds to now playing mainly a white trashed based crowd.
The song anyway, is a wonderful plea for attention to be drawn to nature. Ronnie really cared and this song shows it. No musicians nowadays would write something like this.

General Comment:Oh shut the hell up dude. They aren't sold out. Gary and Billy just wanted the fans to have something man. They want the music to live due to the unfortunate death of their friends. If you think they are doing this for the cash, you need to think harder. They havn't sold out, and never will.
