Lyrics for Around The Bend as interpreted by Trent

Around The Bend Lyrics
I'm wishing you all well.
Mind a peace within your cell.
Covers up I cast you off.
I'll be watching as you breathe.
I lie still, you move, I send you off around the bend.

I hold your head deep in my arms.
My fingertips they close your eyes.
Off you dream my little child.
There's a sun around the bend. (x2)

All evenings close like this.
All these moments that I've missed.
Please forgive me, won't you dear?
Please forgive and let me share with you around the bend.

You're an angel when you sleep.
How I want your soul to keep on, and on, around the bend.

This song was written by Jack Irons (Pearl Jam drummer before Soundgarden's Matt Cameron took his place) as a lullaby for his son.

Actually, this song wasn't written by Irons. It was written by Vedder as a poetry exercise... he wrote it so that it can be interpereted in a couple of ways. 1) As a lullaby from a parent to their child.. something Jack could sing to his son, and 2) As a serial killer to his victim. Hehe, listen to it with that in mind, spooky.

TempleDog is right on with the meaning. But yeah this song is really a great lullabye type of song. It puts me in a good mood whenever I listen. Sometimes it actually helps me fall asleep. No Code is the ultimate PJ album.

a sort of "goodwish" showered on someone, not necessarily an infant, in the form of a soothing lullaby....

i feel, even if slightly, this song's concept is similar to simon and garfunkel's "bridge over troubled waters"... especially the 2nd part of that song... " sail on silver girl.. sail on by...all your dreams are on their way (off you dream my little child, there's a sun around the bend)...."

This song is so slow and beautiful, it really shows that not only is Pearl jam unafraid to make what they want, but that they are damn good at it.....

My favorite line is:
All evenings close like this.
All these moments that I've missed.

No code is obviously my favorite album

I always think of it as a parting of two close ones -- one is left behind while the other's life has ended, but is now in a better place.

i think its about someone that loves another person that is in jail, and she just misses him
"I'm wishing you all well.
Mind a peace within your cell"
i think cell is refering to jail

"All evenings close like this.
All these moments that I've missed.
Please forgive me, won't you dear?
Please forgive and let me share with you around the bend." the first line refers to every night ending the same in the jail cell

"All these moments that I've missed."
she has missed so many moments with him because he is in jail

"Please forgive and let me share with you around the bend."
-around the bend is refering to when he gets out

just a thought, im not sticking the song to this meaning or anything i just thought it made sense

let me know what you think

templedog is right, it was a writing exercise...eddie challenged himself to write a lullaby for jack irons to sing to his son. but upon completion, he realized it was too 'sweet', so he changed a few words so that it could be both a lullaby and to do with a serial killer.

"I also remember saying I should write a lullabye and by the end of the day. I wrote a lullabye, It was "Around the Bend." It was kind of a writing exercise. Then I thought, "well you can't just write a lullabye because that's just too sweet."So, just by changing a few words, I made it so if you listen to it one way it was like a lullabye like a father singing to his child, which is basically a song for Jack Irons to sing to his boy, or it could be like a serial killer who had just eaten half of his ... See, there's a nasty side." ---- ed.

great way to no code in my opinion.

I think you could interpret as a "father and son are both in jail" song, although these lyrics kind of contradict the interpretation:

I hold your head deep in my arms.
My fingertips they close your eyes.
