See it happen to a couple of friends
See it happen and the message it sends
Taking off for what's an obvious fall
Just to see what all the fuss is about
It's not your way...not your way...
It's not your way...yeah...
Another habit sentence him up with you
Another habit says he's long overdue
Another habit like an unwanted friend
I'm so happy with my righteous self...
It's not your way...not your way...
It's not your way...
Never thought you'd habit... (3x)
I never thought you, never thought you...
Never thought you'd habit... (3x)
I never thought you, never, never thought you...
Never thought you'd habit... (6x)
Speaking as a child of the nineties...
Never thought you'd habit... (3x)
I never thought you, never thought you...
Never thought you'd habit... (3x)
I never thought you, never, never thought you...
Never...never me...never you...never me...

General Comment:McCready: Eddie and I have been kind of distanced from each other over the past couple of years because of my condition. I didn’t have a lot of confidence. I was literally afraid of everybody. I didn’t know how to realte to Eddie., and after the band took off, I went off in my own little world. Coming back to that, getting clean, I said to Eddie ,”Listen man, I know I’ve been fucked up for a long time, but I want to get back and re-establish our relationship that we had in the beginning.

SG: I'm a moderate smoker. I've certainly smoked it every day for certain periods in my life. Once a day. Wake up and play music for a couple hours. I've abused it at times. But in general I'd say I enjoy it in moderation. That's a totally different state of mind and a different way to accomplish things and a different way to live your life. (Stones’s interview with High Times, a PRO Pot magazine)

SG: There's certainly good pot in Seattle. SG: Not everybody in the band smokes pot.

"I wish it was luck to which I could attribute getting through some of those periods," says Eddie, slowly.
"Some of that stuff I understand, and some I don't. Life is..." (Eddie ruminates) "I hate to say that I can relate to the needle, that I could condone it. I can't condone it, because it becomes a little harder to understand when you have someone who could follow much more positive paths to get through; like drink juice or do yoga. They actually have the options to create any life that they want. And they can even quit, and never play music again or play music in their homes for themselves or for their friends. Learn to basket weave..." (Long, long pause) "...underwater, or anything, and then it becomes harder to understand why people choose the paths they do. It's hard to have sympathy. "I have to admit, Kurt was the exception, because I did feel sympathetic to his situation, because it was a little more intense than the other two. But I think there was more to that a than meets the eye in that situation, and I'm not going to refer any more to it. But I just don't relate that much to those things, and I feel it's inherently dishonest. "You know, it's weird to meet someone and to have a conversation with them and to find out afterwards that they weren't even... there or something. It makes you feel like you've been lied to."

General Comment:Yes, rap sucks. Think of how talentless you can be and still make millions. All you have to do is rhyme words into nonsensical crap about pimps, nice cars, big booties, etc.. And they do this behind a fake techno beat created by the studio. I'll listen to some Eminem stuff, like "Sing for the Moment" and "Lose Yourself" because the message is good and an actual guitar is used, but all that 50 Cent and Lil' John shit sends a bad message and ultimately, it just sucks!

General Comment:Well, rap does NOT suck. it's just like all other music. mainstream is crap (usually, there are some exception though) and you have to delve deeper to find the good stuff. there are a TON of great hip hop artists and groups who are amazing. well just wanted to get that out of the way.. lol

I haven't listened to the radio in two or three years except the classic rock station or the local rap station occassionally (i know this last part is kind of hypocritical, but I just say that ^^ truth up there for the people who can't stand the mainstream stuff... I, personally, enjoy dancin around acting stupid and yelling BOOTAYBOOTAYBOOTAYBOOTAY ROCKIT EVERY WHAYUH!!! it's fuckin hilarious and fun as hell.. haha) I don't think I've ever actually heard this song, I'm not like a huge pearl jam fan or anything but I own four of their albums. richie may i suggest checking out bands like dream theater, modest mouse, opeth, dredg, queensryche, mogwai, explosions in the sky, godspeed you black emperor, sonata arctica.. the list can go on and on but there's really bound to be something you'd like. just do a little research into things you'll find some new stuff you like.. none of it's gonna be played on the radio though I guess haha..

so in saying all this I kinda lost track of what I was originally gonna say but.. it's close enough, I guess.. whatever haha..

General Comment:I disagree, Richie. The radio helps me find out about new bands or songs that I might like. I don't think this has much radio potential, though. I agree with you there. The coolest part is when he says, "Speaking as a child of the 90s...", and then the music starts blasting out of the stereo.

Anyways, I found out about Pearl Jam through the radio. I admit it, there was a time when I listened to rap and pop music. But my radio was broken and the only station that was playing was the rock station. I got into everything rock, and started realizing that rap and pop, well, suck. But, I got into PJ when hearing "Hail, Hail" on the radio. I thought they were really good, and I now own all of their albums.

General Comment:i dont think this song had what it takes to be a radio hit, its a great song though

i hate the radio and anyone who listens to just the radio on a regular basis doesnt really like the artists that they're listening to because all they hear is the hits, im a cd person, + theyre arent many good bands out anymore i stick to mostly pearl jam, neil young, zeppelin, and the who, nine inch nails in pretty good 2

General Comment:I honestly think that habit was a song that PJ wrote just to have on No Code and say that they could still write music like they had in years past... that they could still rock out...... I have no clue why it wasnt a hit....I love this song

General Comment:You could take this song very generally and apply to any kind of habit, i.e. any mindless routine that someone goes through just because it's been imprinted in the animal part of his/her brain..Just any stupid thing that you do without thinking about, from biting your nails to booting H. "It's not your way" because you're just going through the motions & not actually thinking about what you're doing..you're like a slave to your own brain.
