Lyrics for Blood as interpreted by Trent

Blood Lyrics
Ooh...
Spin me round. Roll me over. Fucking circus.
Stab it down. One way needle. Pulled so slowly.
Drains and spills. Soaks the pages. Fills their sponges.

It's my blood. (x2)

Paint Ed big. Turn Ed into one of his enemies.

It's my blood. (x3)
Stab it down. Fill the pages. Suck my life out.
Maker of my enemies.
Take my... Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?
Rats.

i think this is a very powerfull song about the music industry and how they just drained eddie in the begining of his carrer and how allot of the music out there is just manufactured feelings by what the record label wants to sell but ed is saying that his lyrics are his blood if you dont like what hes talking about you dont like him or what hes going through

I agree, but I think it's really ironic the way that Eddie thought that the biz was draining his creative lifeblood, yet his hatred toward them created this ass-kicking album...this is one throttling good song.

The lyrics also seem to allude to certain magazines that 'used' him. "Spin me around"-Spin magazine "Roll me over"-Rolling Stone "Fucking Circus"-Circus Magazine.

Eddie also seems to use a lot of double meanings in his songs. "Paint Ed big. Turn Ed into one of his enemies." changes easily to 'Painted big, turned into one of his enemies'. Eddie has said that it became so bad that he started to hate seeing his face in magazines whereas, in the beginning of his career it was a source of novelty.

I agree, I like the way that it seems like the music industry has taken his blood and used it to forge cheesy pop knock-offs.

The song always reminds me of cloning and transfusions because of the name

Wow, Eddie Vedder sounds like he wants to kill somebody. Well, he probably does. I find it amazing that Pearl Jam could play such angst-ridden, angry songs like this one and still pull off great, captivating ballads like "Off He Goes". If the song had better production to it, it might have been a hit. Although the whole album of Vs. had like a careless production to it. The album (And I DO love this album by the way; just constructive criticism) could be so much better if it was more carefully produced.

I can agree with the anti-media interpretation - it was where the band was at the time. It reminds me of a PJ concert where a girl shouted something like "I love you, Eddie!" and Ed Ved lost it and said something like "You don't love ME, you love who you think I am, this fantasy persona you've created in your head", and went on to rant about how Beth and him were about to celebrate their ten year anniversary.

If Eddie and Kurt had one thing in common, it's that they hated being loved for who they weren't. This song definately touches on that theme.

T-CAP 75 - Pearl Jam doesn't want to be known for their cleanly produced sound. This isn't unique of the vs. album, it's basically who they are.
