Lyrics for Allison as interpreted by riffic

Allison Lyrics
from distant star
to this here bar
the me, the you
where are we now?
horray the blues
of everyone
allison

keeps a smile
around a while
he took no fright
and jettisoned
we'll go tonight
to hear him tell
"oh well"
allison
allison

and when the planet hit the sun
i saw the face of allison
allison
allison

I think i remember reading in an interview somewhere that this song is about the Mississippi blues/jazz musician, Mose Allison.

Yeah, in the music video, Frank Black says, "This is a song about Mose Allison" before the song starts (the video's included in the Pixies' Complete B Sides Album).

Mose Allison is known for writing quirky blues songs about subjects as wide-ranging as . . . well, from distant star to this here bar, I guess.

This song could be describing the escape from a planetary crush while thinking about Mose Allison, but it also could be speaking about a solar eclipse. Don't you think?

The beggining sounds like a song from top gun, which is the only part of the song I dont like. But if that part wasnt tin the song, than the song would feel very incomplete and therfore the song wouldnt be as good as it currently is.

Awesome song!

My friend always used to sing the part of the song where it goes 'allison' and that was it. I heard it for the first time today, and I thought it would be slow. Was I wrong or what. Loves it.

I remember, this girl was into the pixies and I asked her what her favorite album was, she told me Bossanova because her name was Allison and there was a song on Bossanova called Allison.

I kicked her in the face.

What a horrible way to base your like for a band on, a song with your name in it.

This is probably wrong, but what I got from it was this:

from distant star
to this here bar
(She's weird and they met in a bar)

the me, the you
where are we now?
(Wondering where they are in their relationship)

horray the blues
of everyone
allison
(she likes it when others are sad.. or thinks everyone's sad)

keeps a smile
around a while
(smiles a lot)

he took no fright
and jettisoned
(an ex of hers broke up with her..)

we'll go tonight
to hear him tell
"oh well"
allison
allison
(they shove it in his face and he plays it off like he doesn't care)

and when the planet hit the sun
i saw the face of allison
allison
allison
(he met her at a bad time.. or a bunch of bad things have happened to her)

I described it so be cause I have a girlfriend whos name is Allison and this song is pretty similar to her in ways... and it really reminds me of her.

I really love the song

I was planning on writing some awesomely alternative meaning to this song but you people totally upstaged me. especially "kicked her in the face" guy. "Chiller" got it right too. I carry a sharpie around with me cus when I meet a girl named Allison I'm gonna write "when the planet hit the sun, I saw the face of Allison." on her arm. Or breast, whichever I have access to. Anyhow, Frank f@@king rocks.

This song inspired my motif. It introduced me to Mose Allison. After listening to some of his music he seemed worthy of a portrait. The 5 minute Sharpie drawing was a monumental failure. He looked like a lumberjack that was doing one of two things: playing piano or pleasuring himself.

I had always wished to be somewhat of a recluse, but after thinking about it I realized recluse recreation would most likely consist of one of the two things that lumberjack could have been doing.

This song really changed my views on how I wanted to live my life. I just don't want to end up like that lumberjack.
