Lyrics for Velouria as interpreted by riffic

Velouria Lyrics
Hold my head
We'll trampoline
Finally through the roof
On to somewhere near
And far in time
Velouria
Her covering
Traveling career
She can really move
Oh velveteen!

My Velouria, my Velouria
Even I'll adore you
My Velouria

Say to me
Where have you been?
Finally through the roof
And how does lemur skin
Reflect the sea?

We will wade in the shine of the ever
We will wade in the shine of the ever
We will wade in the tides of the summer
Every summer
Every summer
Every
My Velouria
My Velouria

Forever green
I know she's here
In California
I can see the tears
Of Shastasheen

My Velouria, my Velouria
Even I'll adore you
My Velouria

gotta love the video with the band descending the rocks in the slow motion. cracks me up every time. great tune. maybe about drugs. maybe even about the aliens living in the caly mountains like that guy said if the video is any indication.

okay, sorry, I just need to comment.

no, to all of you who seem to think Say It Ain't So is a rip off of Where Is My Mind. no, it just isn't.

and no to all of you who claim they sound nothing alike. Where Is My Mind employ chord progressions using E, C#m, G#, and A. Say It Ain't So (although tuned down a half step) uses C#m, G#, A, and E.

so yes, they are similar, and they do sound alike. but not ripped off. come on, it's a common progression.

I just checked out the Weezer version. The Pixies version is WAY better. Weezers versions not bad but it doesn't touch the original.

i can definitely see weezer covering this (the first guitar line and the harmonies are very them) i can also see some shithead weezer fan thinking that pixies were covering them. keyword there is "shithead"

"It's the same character, the same imagery. Part of the same lore of Northern California, and Mount Shasta. This woman that I have in mind she's covered in velour. She's like a lemur. She's human, but she's kind of like a cat. She's feline, because she's covered in this short soft hair. Velvety. I suppose it's partially based on my wife, mixed in with lots of other things, things that I've read and things that I've seen when driving around that part of the world, that area of Mt. Shasta."

This is part of a interview with Frank Black, and it pretty much sums up what this song is about. Its not about drugs like some people think. I just don't see the references. But hey, its better than my first guess. I thought this song was about oral sex:S Anyway, The Pixies are fucking genius and the Weezer version just doesnt hold up to the real deal.

As much as I love Weezer, and I love Weezer, their version can not compare to the original.

Before clicking on this link I thought to myself "I bet anything that the first comments are all going to mention that horrible Weezer cover" Sadly, I was right.

Chrisisill is right. Velouria is about Lemuria, the other sunken continent like Atlantis.

So the word "Shastasheen" is only partially gibberish. It all makes so much sense now...

the question is what does this song mean to ME? the answer is it reminds me of when i discovered the joys of the circles of life...that nothing matters except the circles...and i met velouria through a little hallucinogenic seed called morning glory. life changing...

He's obsessively stalking some girl named Velouria. Kinda creepy. Or he's getting high.

Oooh i live this song.
About weezer's cover...i think that no matter how good a cover is, any good it is is credited to the original because it's where the original tune, lyrics, etc. came from. But even if you don't think like that, the weezer one is a lot worse. At least that is what i think.
Frank Black has mentioned in interviews a lemur/cat girl, and the mountains. And i've heard he was obsessed with surealism and aliens. He's also said his lyrics don't really mean antything. So i think that maybe this song is just about him and an girl/lemur/cat, maybe she's an alien, and they're in the moutains?

first of all, saying weezer 'ripped off'' this song is inane because it is a cover, and ALOT of bands cover other songs. I'm not talking about theundone or say it aint so comments.
but I never noticed any strking similarity between undone and I bleed... but I think I bleed is much more similar to only in dreams... just listen to them both.. and I can't believe nobody here has noticed THAT because it is blatantly obvious only in dreams is the same song as I bleed. NOT undone.

For christs' sake, enough with weezer!
But this song is terrific, the video too. I also thought it was about drugs (the rocks, crystal meth, geddit?) but lemurs make less sense, now I think about it.

NO IT FUCKING ISN'T. weezer covered this. Pixies did the original. Besides, how could they have covered the song if the Pixies were here about 3 or 4 years BEFORE Weezer? Although I have to admit, it does sound like it would be pretty easy for Weezer to cover.

it wasn't Undone (The Sweater Song) that ripped off I Bleed, it was Only In Dreams.

Weezer's cover lacks the theremin (yes, this song has a theremin in it,).

If you don't know what a theremin is, look it up yourself.

Well, to me this song means a lot.
I love it so much that i decided to call my daughter Velouria, so that is what she's called.
I read somewhere that it means something like "beautiful beyond compare" that works for me.

What the song is about, hmmm... Black Francis says he shares Bob Dylans view on lyrics, they don't mean anything spesific, and all the different interpretations really amuses them both.

So I guess Black Francis would enjoy all our views on it.

beautiful song.
i love it.
favorite lyrics:
"forevergreen
i know she's here
in California
i can see the tears
of shastasheen"
i don't know why that's my favorite part.
it just moves me for some reason.
