Lyrics for Sorrow as interpreted by Zekethesweetpeak

Sorrow Lyrics
Father can you hear me?
How have I let you down?
I curse the day that I was born
And all the sorrow in this world

Let me take you to the hurting ground
Where all good men are trampled down
Just to settle a bet that could not be won
Between a prideful father and his son
Will you guide me now, for I can't see
A reason for the suffering and this long misery
What if every living soul could be upright and strong
Well, then I do imagine

There will be sorrow
Yeah, there will be sorrow
And there will be sorrow, no more

When all soldiers lay their weapons down
Or when all kings and all queens relinquish their crowns
Or when the only true messiah rescues us from ourselves
It's easy to imagine

There will be sorrow
Yeah, there will be sorrow
And there will be sorrow, no more

If you've only heard this song... you should get the album (The Process of Belief)

I hadn't heard anything off it when I bought it, I just trusted it 'cause I love Bad Religion so much... and I was not disappointed at all. :)

btw, Kyoto Now! is another great song off this album.

True. Awesome song. And SURPRISING amount of radio play for Sorrow. My favorite album's still going to be Recipe for Hate though. but Process of Belief rocks.

This seems to be my official "wake up" song since the San Diego radio station I listen to (wow, two San Diegans. What are the odds? *cough*) always plays this no matter when I set my radio alarm. I love it for being Bad Religion, but I'm afraid it will have some sort of Pavlovian effect on me. Like whenever I hear it, I'll immediately fall asleep and demand "just five more minutes. Zzzzzzzz."

I like these lyrics, but I'm not too sure on how I feel about them... This song is excellent.
It's a great song but it was played on... ... mtv.
Actually mtv2, which was good when it first came out but now sucks loads of ass because now teenyboppers are making good music look shitty.. ahh, what's this world coming to? I guess there is sorrow... Bad Religion predicted it.

this is a good song, i didnt know it was gettin radio play, no good. keep bad religion underground where they belong, with all good punk music. anyway, this song gives me chills. its one of several songs off of process of belief that gives me the feeling of something coming to an end. they've been aroung for like 20years, and i justh avea bad feeling that this could be one of their last releases. anyone else feel this way? bad religon is probabaly the most influential punk band of all time, it would really suck to lose them.

I had no idea that Sorrow was getting air time, but then again all I can get are shit subsidiaries of Clear Channel Corporation broadcasting. I don't have anything against their being aboveground (if you stay underground forever, you're ghettoized).

Don't worry, Bad Religion is going to stay around for awhile... they sold out once already, they've reformed several times, and they're older than I am.

The best Bad Religion song in years, IMO... in no small part because it breaks the stereotype of Bad Religion, regardless of whether you've heard them or not. So subtle, so powerful... and (as an anarchist-pacifist) such an important reminder to myself. I love it.

Toronto EDGE 102 use to play it often...Bad Religion is one of those RESPECTED punk bands so they don't overplay it like some other songs. Its one of those songs that make the hair on the back of my neck stand on end.

ITS EASY TO IMAGINE

yea, i first heard this song WAY back in november when i was on a family trip in hawaii. it REALLY surprised me when i heard them on the radio. And i think Edo is right, theyll be fine, they sold out but have reinvented themselves on more than one occassion. They are such a good band with immaculate lyrics I dont think they can be surpassed, even if they do sell out.

Anyway, I heard this song was written about the struggles between Greg and his father. But i think it might have a double meaning. In 'Metal Hammer' a uk punk and metal magazine they had an interview with Greg and Mr. Brett and Mr. Brett said that this song was about the biblical story of 'Job', in this story Satan bet god that there was no man who wouldn't surrender his faith ('Just to settle a bet that could not be won, between a prideful father and his son' from what I understand of Christianity Satan was created by god then cast out of heaven into hell i.e. god is Satan's 'father') but after huge suffering Job still refused to betray his faith and was rewarded by god. To quote Brett: 'The easiest way to summarize 'Sorrow' is that it is very difficult to account for suffering in the world from a theological perspective...My interpretation of the story of Job is that it doesn't matter how good you are , the universe doesn't run on the merit system. In other words its impossible to justify the suffering in the world with the existence of a god. The story of Job is the archetypal sad story. It's the saddest story ever told, it deals with the biggest question: why is there so much sorrow? Why is there so much pain in the world? I wanted to tackle the subject without trivializing it' I hope this is of some help, Barney."

airplay? hmm, i saw their new america music video in a hard rock cafe when i visited australia. i thought that they had been really popular a long time ago and that i had missed it or something. but yea, they rock! but i have to say i am confused on their message. are they like creed in that they have religious topics in their music but their genre isn't religious?

Oh, and about keeping them underground, i think it is really sad when bands get popular. i mean, that is the point of being a band i guess, but the quality isn't the same after a while. it's a sad process i guess.
