I come home in the morning light
My mother says when you gonna live your life right
Oh mother dear we're not the fortunate ones
And girls they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun

The phone rings in the middle of the night
My father yells what you gonna do with your life
Oh daddy dear you know you're still number one
But girls they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have

That's all they really want
Some fun
When the working day is done
Girls, they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun

Some boys take a beautiful girl
And hide her away from the rest of the world
I want to be the one to walk in the sun
Oh girls they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have

That's all they really want
Some fun
When the working day is done
Girls, they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun,
They want to have fun,
They want to have fun

General Comment:I love this song because of its energy. And I've always adored Lauper, especially for how she helped mold music in the early 80's. She was a role model for change (needed change). For me, this song is not about getting laid or drinking to get drunk. It's about letting lose emotionally and feeling free. I am so excited to be starting a new job soon; making money; meeting new people; and finally getting on with my life. I hope that I meet someone relatively handsome; extremely bright; blue collar; and who loves to dance and attend music concerts. If he likes to read poetry, I'll be in Heaven. I want to have FUN...try new foods; dance at new places; take trips out of town; cook for people; walk in the rain (NO, dance in the rain!) and laugh my arse off. I've spent too much time inside and too much time frowning the last few years. It's time to live again! And Lauper's music is always inspiring, much like P!nk's messages in her music.

General Comment:When you are not involved with anyone, it's a free world out there...especially on the weekends when the music is invigorating; the crowds are larger; and the margaritias are flowing. Classic song!

General Comment:I think what she means by this part is that some boys don't want people to know that they are with the girl so the boys just want to hide her away from everyone and that she wants to be the one who wants to walk in the sun something like that correct me if i'm wrong i'm new at this. i love this song though it's awesome.

General Comment:i love this song! its such a great party song! anyway, i reckon its about a girl who is sick and tired of all the old-fashioned "stay at home wife" views afound her, and she's trying to live a modern carefree life. at te beginning she "comes home in the morning light" after an all-night party and hetr mother thinks thats just NOT the done thing. "we're not the fortunate ones" could refer to them not being able to choose everything about their lives, like in the old days. they have to take into account the fact that girls DO wanna have fun, not just be housewifes. in the next verse when the phone rings in the middle of the night and her dad gets mad and she says "daddy dear your still number one" she probably means "you're still the main man in my life" (in a nice way) because he was always thyere for her, but he has to accept that girls just wanna have fun and party and live there own lives.
the "some bys take a beautiful girl" verse is my favourite part of the song. she wants to be the one to kick start the modern idea of living your own life and just having fun! rathr than sticking to the old-fashioned way of being a good little housewife all the time.
