Oh, oh, what are we gonna do?
Union, Union, Union City blue
Tunnel to the other side
It becomes daylight
I say he's mine

Oh power, passion plays a double hand
Union, Union Union City man
Arrive, climb up four flights
To the orange side
Rearrange my mind
In turquoise Union, Union, Union City blue
Skyline, passion, Union City blue

Power, passion plays a double hand
Union, Union, Union City man
I say he's mine
I have a plan
I say he's my Union City man

Oh, oh, what are we gonna do?
Union, Union, Union City blue

General Comment:Quite simple and very poignant. Deborah is singing about being that girl from NJ looking over and being seduced by the NYC skyline...big city dreams. Power, passion plays a doublehand and how that relates to leaving her "union city man"--her ordinary life in Jersey--"What are we gonna do?" Deborah has talked about the affect NYC had on her as a young girl many times.

General Comment:I grew up in Union City, NJ where Debbie Harry worked for a brief period in the mid-1970's as a go-go dancer in a nightclub (which was among many that had gambling going on in back rooms). The area was infamous for it's corruption.

General Comment:It's about a woman in Manhattan who is in love with a man in Union City, NJ, just over the river. She takes the tunnel to visit him, but their worlds are so different, she being a professional or a musician or something in Manhattan, while he works in a factory or shipyard of some sort (wearing blue coveralls) in Union City, that their love is doomed. Or at least troubled.

Union City is also home to the US's biggest annual Passion Play, so they cleverly allude to that. Maybe the dude's Cuban (big Cuban town, apparently), so maybe that's a problem too.

Or maybe it relates to the plot of the movie "Union City," which I haven't seen. Anyone?

General Comment:Union City is in New Jersey. It is on the New Jersey Transit rail link. The map shows that the color of said link is ORANGE. Hence, "To the orange side",
So the guy is in Union City, and she is off to see him from either Hoboken or Newark Penn Station. Rest of it, go figure yourselves, the video shows the skyline of NY and some weird sh@t dancing.

General Comment:I agree: this song should have been an explosive hit.
Far superior to "Dreaming" or "The Tide Is High".

General Comment:I think this is about Union City, New Jersey, which is across Hudson River from New York City. Maybe about a guy she had a relationship with from there?
