Lyrics for Rapture as interpreted by magicnudiesuit

Rapture Lyrics
Toe to toe dancing very close
Body breathing almost comatose
Wall to wall people hypnotized
And they're stepping lightly
Hang each night in rapture
Back to back sacroiliac
Spineless movement and a wild attack
Face to face sightless solitude
And it's finger popping
Twenty four hour shopping in rapture
Fab Five Freddy told me everybody's fly
DJ spinning I said "My My"
Flash is fast flash is cool
Francois c'est pas flashe non due
And you don't stop sure shot
Go out to the parking lot
And you get in your car and drive real far
And you drive all night and then you see a light
And it comes right down and it lands on the ground
And out comes the man from Mars
And you try to run but he's got a gun
And he shoots you dead and he eats your head
And then you're in the man from Mars
You go out at night eating cars
You eat Cadillacs Lincolns too
Mercurys and Subaru
And you don't stop
You keep on eating cars
Then when there's no more cars you go out at night
And eat up bars where the people meet
Face to face
Dance cheek to cheek
One to one
Man to man
Dance toe to toe
Don't move too slow 'cause the man from Mars is through with cars
He's eating bars
Yeah wall to wall
Door to door
Hall to hall
He's gonna eat 'em all
Rapture
Be pure
Take a tour through the sewer
Don't strain your brain
Paint a train
You'll be singing in the rain
Said don't stop to the punk rock
Back to back, body muscular
Seismic movement, bite the jugular
One to one, tea-time technology and a digital ardour
No sign of Saviour in Rapture
Well now you see what you wanna be
Just have your party on TV
'Cause the man from Mars won't eat up bars where the TV's on
And now he's gone back up to space where he won't have a hassle with the human race
And you hip hop
And you don't stop
Just blast off sure shot
Because the man from Mars stopped eating cars
And eating bars
And now he only eats guitars
Get up!

And I hope Deborah dies a horrable death for making rap popular. I guess theres nothing with rap itself but the image and the lyrics bug the hell out of me. Rap about something intelligent and have a more modest image.

And these lyrics are amusing because they make no sense. Sorta like Its The End of the Wortld by REM. A bunch of nonsensical lyrics crammed into a short song.

ummm...rap had its root in the 60s and a lot of the old school rap that's still popular was surfacing at this time...this rap is nothing special, i don't even think she knew she was rapping, she probably thought it was just rhyming (i only know a few blondie songs, this isn't something she does often is it???)

anyhow, this is a drug song...no? YES, definitely about drugs...probly cocaine

probably a science-fiction fantasy about a hungry alien -- but "paint a train" isn't nonsense. It refers to teens spraying graffiti on subways

The song itself is great. I love Debbie Harry's voice but the rap is pretty embarassing.

Blondie is great. Definitely a drug song...though there is some meaning in all the seemingly "nonsensical" words.

It reminds me of "Stranger from a Strange Planet" http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0441790348/104-1837774-2486363?v=glance&n=283155
It was about a man known to the world as the "Man from Mars." He was human. Most of the symbols seem to click. I don't know if she could have read it before writing those lyrics, though.

Stranger from a Strange Planet by Robert A. Heinlein was first published in 1961. But who knows if Blondie could have read it before publishing. It is possible, even if very unlikely.

I don't know much about Blondie... I just read the lyrics cause of the song title. I was looking Rapture by Hurt.

The rap makes me want to die of shame for being an indie kid and thinking new wave is cool. Debbie Harry: too beautiful to rap.

The rapping is hilarious. It makes no sense. I love the rest of this song though.

The rap was made up in about 10 minutes so I don't think it means anything. 'Fab Five Freddy' was Debbie Harry and her boyfriends friend who introduced them to the 'rap' scene and he graffitied subway trains in New York which I sapose has something to do with 'paint a train' and 'Flash' was a dj they knew. I hate the rap in the song!

The Clash put out "The Magnificent Seven" before this, so they are the original white rappers. Blondie sucks.

'Magnificent Seven': Great song, but it's not really rap. More like they're half-chanting, half-singing. Anyways, there were white and black groups rapping way before either The Clash or Blondie. Blondie just introduced it to the masses.

Their video for 'Rapture' shows Debbie Harry introducing the music as 'rapping', and explaining a bit behind the technique. I remember thinking, "Yeah -- that's never going to catch on". Wrongo. Great video. Anyone know who the dude in white hat and tails was?

Sounds like voodoo to me, but I'm not sure and most likely wrong. The "man from mars" is a voodoo god (according to wikipedia) Also according to wikipaedia, "the lyrics of "Rapture" included references to hip-hop pioneers Fab Five Freddy and Grandmaster Flash." This song rocks, and I'm not fond of rapping.

The dude in white hat and tails was dancer William Barnes, whom also coregraphed the video. Fab Five Freddy made cameo appearance in the video also.

Rapture means exstacy. So to me this song is about drugs. the breath being almost comatose is your calm state of heroine. everyone is hypnotized and stepping lightly. A word for heroine junkies is "walking zombies" dont stop sure shot may mean you dont stop 'til your high, I believe this song to be anti drug and her driving 'til she finds the light may be her stopping. But as she is driving the man from mars comes out with a gun. shoots her dead, eats her head. She is metaphorically saying the needle shot her up and killed her emotions. man from mars means addiction. "Then when there's no more cars you go out at night, And eat up bars where the people meet" she is looking foor drugs but cant find them so she starts hitting the bars to get some, "take a tour through the gutter" means she got high, they call crankers "gutter junkies" and call getting off "crawing in the gutter" she says "Dont stain your brain- paint a train," this may be her turn around, stain your brain- well simply dont do drugs and trains are always associated w/ heroine. "tracks" - from a train- or train spotting aka, "Getting off" trains meaning veins. so paint may mean do art. "hey kids stop doing drugs, start painting, making art" then she says singing in the rain. Well on heroine your life is a living hell. your best friend can die but if your high it means nothing. not she says blast off sure shot. blast off always means get high. but the man from mars doesnt eat cars now he only eats guitars, mening he stopped using now he makes music. im not saying blondi was or ever did use drugs it just a song saying no to drugs. any feeed back?

Ummmm, if anyone was gonna do drugs, it would be a Ms.Deborah Harry. Maybe it could be an anti- drug song, I don't know. Sounds right.

The official lyrics to this song are apparently not correct, as it is alleged that Harry sang 'it's finger f***ing, twenty-four hour s**gging' - close listening to the lyrics are inconclusive - it's a nice thought though :o)
