My friend's got a girlfriend
Man, he hates that bitch
He tells me every day
He says, "Man, I really gotta lose my chick
In the worst kind of way"

She sits on her ass
He works his hands to the bone
To give her money every payday
But she wants more dinero just to stay at home
Well, my friend
You gotta say

I won't pay, I won't pay, no way
Na-na, why don't you get a job?
Say no way, say no way, no way
Na-na, why don't you get a job?

I guess all his money, well, it isn't enough
To keep her bill collectors at bay
I guess all his money, well, it isn't enough
'Cause that girl's got expensive taste

I won't pay, I won't pay, no way
Na-na, why don't you get a job?
Say no way, say no way, no way
Na-na, why don't you get a job?

Well, I guess it ain't easy doing nothing at all, oh yeah
But hey, man, free rides just don't come along
Every day (let me tell you about my other friend now)

My friend's got a boyfriend, man, she hates that dick (this guy)
She tells me every day (woo, every day now)
He wants more dinero just to stay at home
Well, my friend
You gotta say (gotta say)

I won't pay, I won't pay, no way
Na-na, why don't you get a job?
Say no way, say no way, no way
Na-na, why don't you get a job? (Oh yeah)

I won't give you no money, I always pay (no money)
Na-na, why don't you get a job? (Get a job)
Say no way, say no way, no way
Na-na, why don't you get a job?

Hey, that's something everyone can enjoy

    Song Meaning

Am I the only one who thinks this song is NOT about 'getting a job'?

    Cases in point:

    1. The Offspring is a punk band. I'm no hardcore Offspring fan, but punk bands are rarely right-wing-ish, let alone right-wing enough to utter the famous "you should just get a job" argument. Usually this argument is used by politicians as an excuse to simply label people who CAN'T get a job for whatever reason as lazy when it comes to economic changes. I think The Offspring knew this very well when they wrote the song, and it seems to contradict what I know of their vision and/or the general punk vision.

    2. The song doesn't only seem to switch perspectives between 'a male friend' and 'a female friend', I think the first half is Male A's view towards Female B while the second half is Female B's view on Male A. This would lead the song to be about two people the singer knows that are in a relation and basically yell 'why don't you get a job' at eachother. I.e. the song is about perspectives, or how people in a relationship can both think they're the ones putting in all the work while the other just sits around. It's more of a 'sad paradoxal case' that way than a simple 'if you're lazy go get a job' type of song.
