Well I could sleep forever
But it's of her I dream
If I could sleep forever
I could forget about everything
If I could sleep forever
If I could sleep forever
If I could sleep forever

General Comment:i agree with the depressed wanting to sleep, but her being in his dreams. after 5 years my ex left over the weekend with no warning and i went from sleeping like 7 hours, to sleeping about 10 to 13 hours a day, and waking up literally every hour because every dream was always about her. you dont want to be awake at all, but you cant even escape with sleep. its pretty lame lol

General Comment:When you're depressed you usually want to sleep. When you sleep, you escape reality and don't have to deal with your feelings, however in his dreams he sees "her", his love interest. She's the one causing him this depression, this longing to sleep to forget about everything.

He wants to sleep forever to escape her, but there's no escape.

General Comment:It's about live that couldn't be. He knew that it would never happen unless he explained how he felt, but also knows that if he had explained how he felt it would have driven her off. So he is left with his feelings and fantasies about her. In sleep those fantasies become real. He can hide from the reality of the relationship and be lost in a dream world. But at the same time, he doesn't do that, because he knows that experiencing those memories and fantasies will only remind him of her. I don't think it's about suicide.

My Interpretation:After reading other interpretations I feel like I'm a tiny morbid.

I thought the song was about someone dying and the one left behind contemplating suicide.

General Comment:I think this song is about being aware.
It's so much easier to sleep, because you don't feel. You're just... numb.
Especially if you've got a broken heart. I don't know if the Dandy Warhols are referring to sleep as in, the actual form of sleep; I think sleep can also be applied to the feeling of numbness, where you can just lose yourself in nothingness.
"Well I could sleep forever, but it's of her I'd dream."
Sometimes the memory of the people that we love the most haunt us, even in our sleep.

General Comment:I think it's about a guy that has been so infatuated with this girl that either doesn't feel the same or has dumped him or maybe even died. He could sleep to escape his problems, but even then this unrelenting image of her will never go away. She's haunting him.

General Comment:There are certain songs that have a perfect balance between the lyrical content and the actual feel of the song. This is one of them.

It's beautiful and peaceful, and it truly does place you in a world where you're quietly haunted by your own thoughts of love and companionship. In a sense, it's almost a melancholy lullaby.

I would have to agree with what everyone is saying here though. You want to sleep forever and just forget it all, but you can't. And you don't want to forget because it went bad or anything, it's just the way circumstance played itself out.

General Comment:i think you have to listen to this song stoned to appreciate it properly.

because i'm such a major stoner and like nothing better than to get high and lie down and clear my mind and just feel things, this song really appeals to me. because this is a feeling song. its about letting go of reality and being absorbed by one emotion. incredibly powerful.

General Comment:Simple and straight to the point with a very beautiful melody.
I love how the person above me described it as having a "hazy, sleepy kind of drunk mood" because that's exactly how it feels, I just never could find the words to describe it.
