I never thought you'd be a junkie
because heroin is so passe.
But today,
if you think that I don't know
about depression and
emotional pain,
you're insane, or your
a fool who hasn't paid attention
to a word that I say.

In a way, I can't
help but feel responsible.
I always knew that you were insane
with your pain.

But I never thought you'd be a junkie
because heroin is so passe
now a-day.
You never thought you'd get addicted,
just be cooler in an obvious way.
I could say, shouldn't you have got
a couple peircings and decided
may-be that you were gay.

In a way
I can't help but feel responsible,
I always knew that you were insane
with you pain

But I never thought you'd be a junkie
because heroin is so passe hey.
heroin is so passe hey.

General Comment:i liked this song the moment i heard it, and have always liked the brian jonestown massacre
i only recently found out they were both in a documentary, so i just saw dig, and now i'm conflicted...
if this song was written about anton or anyone in the brian jonestown massacre, that is fucked up.

Song Meaning:The way DIG! portrays it is that Courtney wrote this song as sort of a joke towards Anton. He showed it to Anton privately hoping he would get the joke but Anton didn't like it. As a result the Jonestown guys showed up at their video shoot and trashed it. To get back at them the Dandys showed up at their house uninvited and staged a photoshoot and in return, Not if You Were the Last Dandy on Earth was born. This song I don't like too much, but that song is brilliant!

General Comment:I don't think it's anti-heroin, I think the message is "don't do heroin if you're only doing it to be chic"

great song, the video is hilarious.

General Comment:Its just about style over substance, doing things to convey a certain image, an overbearing desire to appear fashionable, etc, you could relate it to whoever you want

General Comment:You've got to love a song where the main line is 'heroin is so passe'. lol!
I think it's about thinking someone just faked having problems but then became a junkie, which showed it wasn't fake.
I love the lines about the piercings and gayness.

General Comment:This song is about the singer for the Brianjonestown Massacre, Antone Newcombe, who frequently does use heroin.
The Brianjonestown Massacre also has a song called "Not if You Were the Last Dandy" and also "A Message to the Dandy Warhols".
