Friends say it's fine
Friends say it's good
Everybody says it's just like rock 'n' roll
I move like a cat
Charge like a ram
Sting like a bee
Babe, I wanna be your man

Well it's plain to see
You were meant for me
Yeah, I'm your toy
Your 20th Century boy

Friends say it's fine
Friends say it's good
Everybody says it's just like rock 'n' roll
Fly like a plane
Drive like a car
Ball like a hound
Babe, I wanna be your man

20th Century boy
I wanna be your toy
20th Century boy
I wanna be your toy

Friends say it's fine
Friends say it's good
Everbody says it's just like rock 'n' roll
I move like a cat
Charge like a ram
Sting like a bee
Babe, I wanna be your man

20th Century boy
I wanna be your toy
20th Century toy
I wanna be your boy

General Comment:especially in this song words just don't matter. it's all about "i wanna be your man" and "you were meant for me". all the rest is hardly important, be it "ball like a hound" or hold out your hand or whatever.. If you care for words listen to some other of his songs, not just this one.

General Comment:dontcha know that Bolan used to change his lyrics easily? that was his way of expressing himself. one time it's robin hood, another - rock n'roll, then maybe something else. expressing emotion was the main thing and lyrics just go with the flow, the way he liked it to be at the moment.

General Comment:It has been mentioned that the line ..
'Just like Robin hood' could be a sexual term
for fellatio ?? ( as in 'robbing the hood'!)

    .....food for thought !!

General Comment:Yes the lyric's are both 'just like Rocknroll'' and or ''just like Like Robin Hood''depending on whether your listening to the original single release which was ''just like rocknroll'' Marc also altered lyrics here and there and did indeed sung ''just like Robin Hood'' as can be clearly heard on Marc's session/live work...
The lyrics above are almost spot on but I'd replace ''Ball like a hound'' with ''Howl like a hound''
..babe I'm gonna be your man..

    Rock on

General Comment:bazmeg... have you listened to anything live? 'cause if you have, you'd know (at least that's what I recall) that at some part of a song (not 20th Century Boy) Mr Bolan sings Robin Hood. So, if you listen carefully, I think he DOES sing "it's just like Robin Hood" in this song. In fact, before reading the lyrics I used to sing "Robin Hood" instead of "Rock 'n' Roll".

Anyways, I really love this song. In fact I met my boyfriend dancing with this song!

General Comment:I think it it "just like rock and roll." But I always hear Robin Hood. I don't know why he would write that though lol. I love it whatever it actually says.
