If that's all that you will be
Then you'll be a waste of time
You've dreamed a thousand dreams
None seem to stick in your mind

Two points for honesty
It must make you sad to know that
Nobody cares at all

I want to be where I've never been before
I want to be there and then I'd understand
Know I'm right and do it right
Could I get to be like that
How to know what I don't know
Nothing more to gain

Will I get better or stay the same?
I find I always move too slowly
Can't lift a finger
Can't change my mind
I never knew till someone told me that

If that's all that you will be
Then you'll be a waste of time
You've dreamed a thousand dreams
None seem to stick in your mind

Two points for honesty
It must make you sad to know that
Nobody cares at all

And all the people who've seen it all before
And all the people who already understand
Know they're right
and done it right
Could I get to be like that?
I don't know and I don't know
It's harder everyday

Can't lift a finger
Can't hurt a fly
I find I always move too slowly
One thing's for certain
I'm insecure
I never knew till someone told me that

If that's all that you will be
Then you'll be a waste of time
You've dreamed a thousand dreams
None seem to stick in your mind

Two points for honesty
It must make you sad to know that
Nobody cares at all
Nobody cares at all
They never cared at all

My Interpretation:This song is about clinical depression. The meaning is very clear to anyone who has ever suffered from it.

My Interpretation:i feel like it's about a person who has adhd. and another person said to them that if that's all they're gonna be, they'll be a waste of time. like, the person with adhd needs to not let it define them, and improve themselves, not be an adhd person but a person who happens to have adhd.

these lyrics go along with my idea of this song:

""Will I get better? Or stay the same?
I found I always move too slowly
Can't lift a finger, can't change my mind
I never knew till someone told me that"

the adhd person wonders if they will ever overcome this condition they have. they know that they mess up all the time, are slow, lazy, and find it hard to change the way they think about things to the way everyone else who is normal thinks. they never knew that they were different until someone finally told them that they were, and that it may be because of adhd.

If that's all you will be,
You'll be a waste of time
    You've dreamed a thousand dreams,
None seem to stick in your mind
    Two points for honesty
It must make you sad to know that
    Nobody cares at all "

adhd causes a person to have dreams, but then not stick with them, they constantly change their minds instead. often when a person has adhd, it feels like no one cares at all because often no one knows its adhd, not even the person who has it, if they haven't been diagnosed. adhd is widely under-diagnosed, especially for the quiet daydreamer type. also, people with adhd speak their minds often because they have no filter. so they can be quite honest a lot of the time. so, two points for that. and two points for the person who helps diagnose adhd honestly for a person.

My Interpretation:Addiction? Wow, that's going a bit deep... Couldn't it just be about telling your parents (peers, etc) that you're an artist? Suddenly, you're confronted with the idea: "that's it? That's a waste of time."
He needs to not turn into the jaded and bitter "other" artists who "[...] Have seen it all before [, ... ] Already understand; Know they're right, done it right; could I get to be like that?" Could -- I -- become that jaded artist?

General Comment:I totally agree that this song can relate to addiction. One lyric that really stands out is: "Know they're right, and done it right, could I get to be like that". Basically, If they can do it (recover), then I can do it. But, I can't do it the way I want to do it, I have to do it the same way they did it.

Referring to the song title: I must be HONEST about what is going on in order to recover. The alternative to "staying the same" is to help myself and others.

General Comment:For me personally, I relate this song to addiction.
    [Okay, this will be long-winded.]

They're such a struggle to get over, because when you have them, whatever they may be (drugs, eating disorders, sex), its about running away from your emotions.

Whenever you start to have a dream, and you could actually imagine yourself becoming happy you turn to your addiction until its the only thing you have.

"Will I get better? Or stay the same?
I found I always move too slowly
Can't lift a finger, can't change my mind
I never knew till someone told me that

If that's all you will be,
You'll be a waste of time
    You've dreamed a thousand dreams,
None seem to stick in your mind
    Two points for honesty
It must make you sad to know that
    Nobody cares at all "

And along the path of trying to recover from addictions, through rehab or hospitalizations, you meet people who've gone through what you've gone through.

They've gotten better, so it can obviously be done.

And you know how to make yourself better.
But its just too hard to feel the emotions.

"And all the people who've seen it all before
And all the people who already understand
Know they're right, and done it right,
Could I get to be like that
How to know, but I don't know
    It gets harder everyday "

so you repeat the motivations over and over.

    "Nobody cares at all
They never cared at all... "
