Lyrics for Burn as interpreted by me109cito

Burn Lyrics
this world rejects me
this world threw me away
this world never gave me a chance
this world's gonna have to pay

i don't believe in your institutions
i did what you wanted me to
like cancer in the system
i've got a little suprise for you

something inside of me has opened up its eyes
why did you put it there did you not realize
this thing inside of me it screams the loudest sound
sometimes i think i could

burn

i look down there where you're standing
flock of sheep out on display
saw your lives burned up around you
i can take it all away

something inside of me has opened up its eyes
why did you put it there did you not realize
this thing inside of me it screams the loudest sound
sometimes i think i could

i'm gonna burn this whole world down

i never was a part of you burn

I am your savior (i never was a part of you burn)
i am corruption (i never was a part of you burn)
i am the angel (i never was a part of you burn)
of your destruction (i never was a part of you burn)

i am perversion (i never was a part of you burn)
secret desire (i never was a part of you burn)
i am your future (i never was a part of you burn)
swallowed up in fire

I'm not a big NIN fan, but this song is really good. And their drummer is awesome.

Yes, their stage drummer is very good. BUT, they obviously used a drum machine for the fast parts. No human could play that. Good day.

I might be wrong, but I believe this song is the first song Trent ever recorded as NIN.

yes, you are wrong. The first song Trent ever recorded as Nin was 1989's "Down in It"

...Any of you putting the meaning?

Here's what I think:
It's about God. And obviously his dislike for God.
"flock of sheep" well.. More like Christianity. Trent rarely actually implies "God" he more often sticks to "Christianity" like in Heresy.
The "thing" inside of him that opens up his eyes is an emotion of some sort. I'm not going to try to say any of them because there's too many that it could be.
But Insecurities would be a good one, Trent has written about Insecurities before, and often Insecurities seem to be described as a living thing.
I think it's Trent trying to say he hates Religion's and he wants them to "burn down" he wants to be the one to make people realize that they're wrong to believe in them.

This song is not about religion. Maybe is about organized religion, corporations, the goverment, mainstream media and the whole society. The lyrics cant be more antisocial. I think that he's talking about a moment when you realize that everything is bullshit. The lyrics fit very well with the natural born killers story for which the song was made. Thats it.

Its basically about being rejected by the world and the feelings that that person feels because of his "exile."
Sure, it may have the religious stabs in it, but the song circles around Woody's character I think.

Maybe. Not sure.

I've wanted to see the movie for awhile, but I haven't been able to get my hands on it.

I'm not much of a fan of the song, but lyrics-wise, I believe it's above average.

First of all I have to say that the drums on this one seriously kicks ass. To me the thing that awakens inside of him is some kind of extreme hate/disgust with the world after being pushed around and not fitting in all your life

the drums are completely possible, he played it once or twice in previous tours, and its a consistant play on the With Teeth tour, drummin sounds good live as it does on the album version

I'm going to have to say this is definately is about being the exile of the world.... Even though I haven't seen the movie nor heard more than three minutes of this song. I have read the lyrics about 7 times though.

This song is about sociopaths!! Those of you who have seen the video will see a man at the beggining saying "he always kept to himself" etc. and the video has similar grapics as the movie Natural Born Killers and it features Mickey and Mallory. It's trying to make you see how sociopaths think, and act. They're believed to be charming then they snap: "sometimes i think i could burn" Seriously research sociopaths/ psychopaths and then reread the lyrics, it'll make sense.
