I live my life in the city
There's no easy way out
The day's moving just too fast for me
I need some time in the sunshine
I gotta slow it right down
The day's moving just too fast for me

I live my life for the stars that shine
People say it's just a waste of time
Then they say I should feed my head
That to me was just a day in bed
I'll take my car and drive real far
They're not concerned about the way we are
In my mind my dreams are real
Now we're concerned about the way I feel

Tonight I'm a rock 'n' roll star
Tonight I'm a rock 'n' roll star

I live my life in the city
There's no easy way out
The day's moving just too fast for me
I need some time in the sunshine
I gotta slow it right down
The day's moving just too fast for me

I live my life for the stars that shine
People say it's just a waste of time
Then they say I should feed my head
That to me was just a day in bed
I'll take my car and drive real far
They're not concerned about the way we are
In my mind my dreams are real
Now we're concerned about the way I feel

Tonight I'm a rock 'n' roll star
Tonight I'm a rock 'n' roll star
Tonight I'm a rock 'n' roll star

You're not down with who I am
Look at you now you're all in my hands tonight

Tonight I'm a rock 'n' roll star
Tonight I'm a rock 'n' roll star
Tonight I'm a rock 'n' roll star

It's just rock 'n' roll
It's just rock 'n' roll
It's just rock 'n' roll
It's just rock 'n' roll
It's just rock 'n' roll
It's just rock 'n' roll
It's just rock 'n' roll
It's just rock 'n' roll

Song Meaning:What blows me away about this song is that Noel wrote it when he was unemployed and on the dole (long before he became successful).

When he says 'In my mind my dreams are real', it means that he's dreaming about being a Rock N' Roll star and he's acting like one - even though he's not.

Fate would have it that Noel really did become a very famous Rock N' Roll star, and this would be the opening tune of his band's first album.

General Comment:Rock 'n' Roll star tells the life of a rockstar.

for example it says what they do in the day "that to me was just a day in bed"
and at night it says "tonight im a rock 'n' roll star".
In my opinion it also talks about drugs for example "the day is moving just to fast for me".

General Comment:i forgot to add that its such a euphoric song. and its great to think that when they wrote that, no1 knew what theyd become and now they are the physical embodiment of rock n roll

General Comment:aww, amazing. Even singing along to this makes you feel on top of the world. First song, first album said it all. I heard someone say that this song isnt about being in a succesful rockband, its about being 1 in your own right, just by havin a great time, being carefree and being yourself without changing for any1. .LIVING rock and roll.

General Comment:noel said - " “Rock’n’Roll Star” is the whole manifesto of the band. I’ve never wanted to say anything else in a tune. We’re going to be rock stars, and even if we don’t, even if we’re just playing the fucking Boardwalk the rest of our lives, we’re going to act like fucking rock stars. When we started it, my ambitions were to have a jet, a monkey, a house in Ibiza. Did I ever get a monkey? I’ve got Liam. He’s the only monkey I’ll ever need. I wrote “Rock’n’Roll Star” when I was on the dole. I wouldn’t have put my fucking council flat on it, but we knew we were the best thing that was up and coming at that moment. When we got signed, McGee wasn’t saying anything that I didn’t already know myself. We played it at the three or four gigs we played at the Boardwalk before we were signed and there would be about ten people by the end singing “Tonight I’m a rock’n’roll star” and the staff would all be sniggering"

To me this is the ultimate wannabee anthem, "I'm a rock star whether you say so or not"
