(It's Good) To Be Free Lyrics
Head like a rock spinning round and round
I found it in a hole sitting upside down
You point the finger at me but I don't believe
Paint me a wish on a velvet sky
You demand the answers but I don't know why in my mind
There is no time

But the little things they make me so happy
All I want to do is live by the sea
Little things they make me so happy
But it's good it's good it's good to be free

So what would you say if I said to you
It's not in what you say it's in what you do
You point the finger at me but I don't believe
Bring it on home to where we found
My head like a rock sitting upside down
In my mind there is no time

But the little things they make me so happy
All I want to do is live by the sea
Little things they make me so happy
But it's good it's good it's good to be free

The song is about a sense of fitting in within yourself- A lot of Oasis songs are like that, very focused on the self. One has themselves to trust...It traces success and vanity.

Basically, this song tells me that no matter what people say, there is no time to care, and that in our mind we should be all free.

Great Song!

I heard that when they recorded it, it was a very sad performance - because the song is about drug addiction. That's why they added the organ part at the end to cheer everyone up in the studio.

My favourite part is the guitar solo just before the organ. Noel screams it like a kettle!!!!

amazing tune and i liam makes the lyrics sound so meaningful, he has to be one of the greats. however its far from the greatest oasis song, slide away, go let it out, the masterplan, supersonic, live forever there's plenty better

lovely song, amazing solo at the end but its not about drugs its about when paul gallagher (their older brother) was sent to prison, how he felt when he got out. atleast thats what noel said in an interview in 1998.

This is Noels best guitar song. His guitar playing has so many levels to it in his song, many slag him off but this song confirms his status as the one of the great guitaring Brits.

just shows the depths of oasis's talents, that this brilliant song can only make it to the b side of a single that never featured on an album. Someone could write a phd just on the lines 'all i wanna do is live by the sea'

I love the beginning guitar- it's truly amazing. This isn't one of my favorite Oasis songs, but it fits nicely on The Masterplan. This song is about appreciating the little things in life and finding happiness in everyday things that most people take for granted- the scenery, the people, the landscape- it all means something if you pay attention to it. I love the little Irish jig at the end with the accordion- very nice!

For me, this is one of the best oasis songs, and, also, one of their best lyrics. However, i don't think it is about enjoying little things in life, but about dreams that can never be fulfilled. Namely, people often think that "living by the sea" is the key for freeness, that means there is a chance for breaking out from every day life, but we all know that this is just a mere illusion. /This is the same image as Champagne Supernova' "people believe that they gonna get away for the summer"/ Of course, we all want to have a "free life", and sometimes, we are foolish enough to believe in its possibility, but i think that the lyrics states that the constant reapeating of the lines "it's good to be free" is nothing else but a way of self-persuasion that obviously cannot be successful. So, all in all, there is a deep sarcastic meaning in this little song which makes it simply perfect.
