Oh, you know I have seen
A sky without sun
A man with no nation
Saints, captive in chains
A song with no name
For lack of imagination
Ya na he ya he ya na he
And I have seen
Darker than ebony
Ya na he ya he ya na he
And now it seems, that I
Without your eyes could never be
My one desire, all I aspire
Is in your eyes forever to live
Traveled all over; the seven oceans
There is nothing that I wouldn't give
Came from Bahrein, gone to Beruit
Looking for someone comparing to you
Tearing down windows and doors
And I could not find eyes like yours
Rabboussamai fikarrajaii
Fi ainaiha aralhayati
Ati ilaika min haza lkaaouni
Arjouka labbi labbi nidai
Came from Bahrain, until Beirut
Looking for someone comparing to you
Tearing down windows and doors
And I could not find eyes like yours
Oh, you know I have seen
A woman of means
In rags and begging for pleasure
Crossed, a river of salt
Just after I rode a
Ship that sunk in the desert
Ya na he ya he ya na he
And I have seen
Darker than ebony
Ya na he ya he ya na he
And now it seems, that I
Without your eyes could never be
My one desire, all I aspire
Is in your eyes forever to live
Traveled all over; the seven oceans
There is nothing that I wouldn't give
Came from Bahrein, gone to Beruit
Looking for someone comparing to you
Tearing down windows and doors
And I could not find eyes like yours
Rabboussamai fikarrajaii
Fi ainaiha aralhayati

Came from Bahrein, gone to Beruit
Looking for someone comparing to you
Tearing down windows and doors
And I could not find eyes like yours
Rabboussamia fikarrajaii
Fi ainaiha aralhayati
At ilaika min haza ikaaouni
Arjouka labbi labbi nidai
Came from Bahrein, until Beriut
Looking for someone comparing to you
Tearing down windows and doors

I like the Spanish song, but her voice sounds uncontrolled, like she has no idea what tone is. If anything, it flows less because it sounds so rushed; I love it, but the English version just is more organized and mature sounding.
Rabbou assama'i fika arraja'i
Fi ainaiha aral-hayati
Ati ilaika min hazal kaawni
Arjouka labbi labbi nida'i
and it means as suha expalained, but i think she sez, in his eyes, i see life...
b) of course it sounds better in spanish, it's the original language it was written in but more importantly, the rhythm of spanish is so much more similar to arabic. it's a lot smoother, versus english which just doesnt flow at all.
c) the english lyrics are a JOKE. they tried way too hard to make it fit the beat, so the song just sounds trite...it's a shame that she couldn't just keep the spanish version but i admire that she wanted to make it more accessible to those fans that don't understand spanish. still, some things are better left alone...
personally, i think she's a much stronger singer in spanish hands down. i've been listening to her music almost as long as she's been recording and not only is her voice just that much richer in a language she's comfortable with, but the songs also have some depth!
the quality of her songs since the crossover album (at least the english ones) just doesnt compare. but hey, you do what you gotta do to make money.
Crossed a river of salt just after I rode a ship that's sunk in the desert
Crossed a river of salt
just after I rode
A ship that sunk
In the desert
Maybe I'm wrong?
