This is one of my favorite songs... Regardless if he wrote the song or not (going off of LostPostcard's comment), it's true and everyone can relate. My favorite line, "stayin' up all night just to write a love song for no one". You're in love but you just don't know with who yet.. Which I find an amusing concept.. simply because it's so true! I often listen to this song when I want to be put in a good mood. I particularly like this song because it's about being alone and wanting someone, but it's not one of those "poor me" songs.. And the lightheartedness of the song makes it all the more enjoyable.

I love this song. Story of my life, lol. I put it up as an away message all the time. I love how he talks about you could have passed the "one" for you, like in the sandbox or on the sidewalk. It's a cute way of putting it. I've recently gotten into John Mayer, and I love love love this song!!

Beautiful. In life, you are bound to meet several people that pass you on the sidewalk or sit next to you in the bus, and you feel a connection and dream about what could have been if you would've met at the right place, on the right time.

John says it beautifully with his words... I think anyone can relate to this, at some point. We all dream of impossible things sometimes.

hmmmm.I think this song is about looking at old relationsips & wanting to be in a relationship with someone that you dont even know yet,and that maybe you missed your chance when you didnt even know you had a chance.And that when you find this person they'll be soo good for you.

This could be my theme song word-for-word. I think its pretty much a self-explanitory song. He hasn't experienced a great love in his life yet and, as he gets older, he's wondering if he's waiting for nothing... maybe he already met "the one" and was just too oblivious to realize it. But, regardless, he's sick of waiting and just wants someone to be there already. Its a really sad, lonely song and I think that so many people can identify with so many of John Mayer's songs word-for-word.

I ALWAYS have loed this song every time I have listened to it, it made me okay with not having past loves when there weren't any "or lack there of", tbu now as I've sort of grown up with this song, and have had more "loves" I've grown to accept that eventually I will find someone which is what this song is about. B/c he doesn't accept that he has passed them by already, he has yet to find them b/c once they are there according to john mayer, they will smack u in the face and u will not be able to let go.

I agree with everything that been posted. And like many of you have said, yeah it does have the potential to bring you down, and make you think "hey i'm alone" but it can also give you hope like "the right person is out there, and i'm gunna find them!" AMAZING SONG!

I'd put my two cents in, but everything's already been said. It's such an amazing song, especially the live version, and at the moment, it just speaks to me...I'm sick of being on my own when it seems like the whole world has someone, but there's a bit of hope that maybe there is someone out there for me.

totally brilliant.. about the person you havent even met yet and jus knowing that one day you will find each other and it will all be right.. as he says "until then ill hide in my bedroom staying up all night just to write a love song.. to no one" a truly brilliant song its the song i listen to if i feel down about love and it picks me up every time.. i love it

This song is great - it's so true. Everyone talks about how hurt they are - but what about people who don't even have anyone to get hurt BY? Sort of like myself - there hasn't been anyone for a while. JM has a real gift with this, I relate to his songs so well. I'm happy to see him doing well...even though I've liked him for about 2 years now. Go, JM! He shoulda got best new artist at the grammy's. Oh well. Fuck the grammy's..

This song has meant so much to me to realize that I am not the only one who thinkins like this. I feel like Mayer's words could have come out of my mouth exactly, I am just jealous that he said them first. Mayer has a definitely songwriting gift and this song to me is the epidemy. I hope that there are many more to come that will top this!

This song's one of the best ever made. I kinda makes me depressed, cause I've never really been in love... Anyway, am I the only one who thinks that John Mayer is really cute? He seems like a real romantic (not that I've ever spoken to him or anything).

john mayer has a way of telling you exactly what he feels in his songs. they're somewhat personal, but people can almost always relate to them. his voice is sweet, and from what i hear, his songs are really hard to play on guitar. jm is no doubt a favorite of mine... i just hope he doesnt sellout! love yall!
