Lyrics for We're Going to Be Friends as interpreted by weezerific:cutlery

We're Going to Be Friends Lyrics
Fall is here, hear the yell
Back to school, ring the bell
Brand new shoes, walking blues
Climb the fence, books and pens
I can tell that we're going to be friends
I can tell that we're going to be friends

Walk with me, Susie Lee
Through the park and by the tree
We will rest upon the ground
And look at all the bugs we found
Safely walk to school without a sound
Safely walk to school without a sound

Here we are, no one else
We walked to school all by ourselves
There's dirt on our uniforms
From chasing all the ants and worms
We clean up and now it's time to learn
We clean up and now it's time to learn

Numbers, letters, learn to spell
Nouns and books and show and tell
At playtime we will throw the ball
Back to class, through the hall
Teacher marks our height against the wall
Teacher marks our height against the wall

We don't notice any time pass
We don't notice anything
We sit side by side in every class
Teacher thinks that I sound funny
But she likes the way you sing

Tonight I'll dream while I'm in bed
When silly thoughts go through my head
About the bugs and alphbet
And when I wake tommorow I'll bet
That you and I will walk together again
I can tell that we're going to be friends
I can tell that we're going to be friends

I do believe that this is the most innocent and sweet (not cheesy sweet, but honest sweet) that I've ever heard. To be honest or realize these childhood friendships and how we act at that age makes me feel a little better about adulthood, if Jack White gets it maybe I can.

I can't believe the power that's expressed in these words. It completely captures the innocence of childhood, something I wish I still had. I'm studying to be an elementary school teacher at the moment and this song expresses the very reason why.

it is about a guy who (like michael jackson) is secretly screwing a little kid. HAHAHAHHA. no no no, i'm just messin'. I really like this song and i think it's cool. I agree with RubberDuckieYAY about it. How it's about times when girls (or boys) were gross and had cooties. and all the good stuff like that.

Like someone else mentioned I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it. It is so simple and takes you back to a time that was just carefree and fun. It reminds me of my bestfriend growing up.

definitely has a lot of innocence to it, but maybe that's a little deceptive (or i'm overanalyzing it). if you've ever read the poem "in just" by e.e. cummings, which is similar to this song in many respects, you'll know what i mean.

we know that this innocence will not last. most of us (all of us, i hope) visiting this website know that eventually we lose those carefree days and have to deal with all the problems and complications that come with growing up. jack can tell he and suzy are gonna be friends, but what will that mean when they're all grown up? is he gonna get her pregnant? will she cheat on him with his best friend? some other lyrics that sort of capture this same vein is system of a down's "soil," in which tankian says: "my memories are of fun and friendship, of weakness within the strength of youth, for reasons undefined... friends for years, images in red, blew off his own motherfucking head... why the fuck did you take him away from us, you motherfucker!?"

hope i made sense.

Wow... ^_^ This is such a cute little song, it reminds me of how happy I was as a kid... I miss those times when boys were gross.. and school was fun...

When I first heard it, I thought the part where he sings "Safely walk to school without a sound" was actually "Safely wanting to screw without a sound". It.. er.. threw me off a bit (XD) but I love/loved it nontheless.

The White Stripes kick Courtney Love ass.

Yea, this is definately an awesome song. You would think it wouldn't work because it's so 'soft' and 'sweet', but it's really great. I noticed he seems to be commenting on the state of society at the moment, with the lines, "Well here we are, no one else we walked to school all by ourselves" . Wish we still lived in a time when kids could safely walk to school by themselves, without worrying about kidnappings and such.

This is a beautiful song, without doubt. I think RubberDuckie nailed it right on; this is about the times when we didn't care about the stupid, complicated things we careabout now.

Listen to this song from the eyes of a pedophile...it's pretty obvious. Jack is singing about how he likes little girls - or boys. Sure, you could view this as past days when everything was great, but today's a modern world, and in this modern world, everything's fucked up the ass, including little kids
