    General Comment:I have another interpretation for this song. An interpretation of how I felt sorry about what happened to me and to my ex-girlfriend. We were very happy until the time that she had a lot of work. And she couldn't handle her schedules anymore. She coulnd't fine time for our relationship. I tried to understand and find a solutions but with all the solutions and everything I did,. We decided to end our relationship. even though it ended I was still holding on it. We still love each other so much, thats why it hurts to much. Months passed without seing each other or not having any communications at all, One day I called and talked to her, I asked for another chance for us,. And she said "I can't promise anything, I still don't know what to do,. I don't want you to keep on hoping" I guess that's the cue for me that I have to really give everything up. =( I was so down and broken then I decided to be happy and start all over. And then I met a new girl that really changed me for better. Obviously we are in a relationship now.

    Now I found out that my ex girlfriend wants me back promised to try her best this time but she couldn't promise if she can prioritize our relationship. It was really hard for me because it was not easy for me to forget about her. But I really love my girlfriend now. And it was HARD because I know my ex was still in pain and she still love me very much, I love my girlfriend so much, I couldn't affort to break her heart. I now that I am very happy because I choose to love and be loved again..

    Last month I decided to talk to my ex and finally let her go...

    I like this song because, It's makes me feel the sadness that i felt when I was still with my ex girlfriend and if she could have only fought for our relationship and did something to prioritze it, but now it's too late because I have somebody with me that I really love now and that really love me back in return...

    I learned a lesson,. And that is to be patient no matter how hard. Be strong no matter how it hurts. because you can never go back from what you have left....

    And now I'm very happy with my girlfriend, And everyday I make sure that I always make her happy.

    COULD IT BE ANY HARDER TO SAY GOODBYE (without you) I said good bye to my ex and started to have a new life with my new girlfriend.

    General Comment:if the person who wrote this song said it was about death then clearly that's what he intended. however, the beauty of music is that each person can find his or her own meaning in the lyrics. being in a very long distance, myself, this is how i feel every time my girlfriend has to go back to her home in switzerland. it's like she is physically gone for quite some time but when i am with her again it is almost as if her life that i have been missing, even though we talk everyday extensively, is reborn and i have a chance to hear her and feel her again. this song is truely touching and i respect all the views that everyone has posted but that is just how i feel about this song.

    General Comment:The reason why I feel that Alex is referring to a dead lover is the line:

    "To say goodbye, without you"

    The realisation that he is having to say farewell without being able to see her face or hear her voice. They are not able to share their last moments together knowing that they will be their last. It is such a sad notion and can be applied to any relationship, with family or a lover, which has been cut short by death.

    General Comment:this song was made through separation of both death and breaking apart by distance.It is surely tells how pain can sometimes hurt people badly.i like the part " you stick to me forever baby" through experience this was one of the toughest human can deal with.. by being apart to someone you know you will never ever forget,and together people will live with that king of pain.. and sadly but being in reality the only thing that needs to be done is to accept the situation. we can go over and over the pain and the misery.. so we can ask could it be any harder??

    General Comment:I've always taken this song to be about someone close dying, basically because of the same reasons everyone else has pointed out.

    I've always been in complete awe of this song. You can feel a fraction of the pain, and I only say a fraction because nothing will give you a full picture of the feeling unless you have gone through it. Kind of tears you up.

    Brilliant song.

    General Comment:You know it's so weird... I've been listening to this song for so many years and being so in love with it, always assuming it was about an ended relationship, and of course him still being in love with her. And then all of the sudden for the time, it hit me today that it must be about death- the words make even more sense that way ("to touch you again with life in your hands," "you were always invinicible in my eyes/the only thing against us now is time," etc...). But then, that's what I love about music... it can be interpreted in so many ways and mean different things to everyone, having its own unique power in each interpretation.
    That being said, whatever was intended, the element of heartbreak in this song is beautiful. The music, the lyrics... everything combines to make what is, in my opinion, one of the greatest songs of all time.

    General Comment:It's about a parent dying, I read in an interview with Alex. But just to satisfy those who disagree -

    Reasons Why It Has To Be About An Actual Death:

    ~"Fade away, fade away" repeated int he background

    ~"Goodbye and open arms" - if it was the end of a relationship, they wouldn't have open arms, they would be leaving by choice. They are leaving against their will because they still want to be with him.

    ~"I'd listen to every word as if it's your last, I know it's your last" - people whoa re still alive are still capable of speech. Dead people aren't.

    ~"To touch you again with life in your hands" - as opposed to being dead.
