You woke me up in the morning
To say, "He is risen."
And I replied with a smile,
"He is risen indeed."
And somehow you always leave the room
Alive with truth and beauty
And carry yourself like you know
That it's all just a matter of time

I said, "But maybe I'm too far down this time."
"Too proud to hope too weak to climb."
But you just pierce through me with eyes
And I know I'm done

And I can
And carry yourself like you're sure of it
Like the stitches dissolved
And the wounds all heal in time
Your words are giants next to mine
And your thoughts are giants

I only hope that someday
I might resemble you in
Even the smallest way
I only hope that
You can be proud of me

General Comment:That's a very interesting though, thejones52. I've gotten that connotation as well, but I've always heard him say, "turn around and.." It's incredibly Mineral to leave something open and ambiguous like that, though. Yes, I did just use "Mineral" as an adjective.

General Comment:i think it is about wanting to be like his father and making him pround. at the end, i hear him singing "Turn around Dad" over and over while singing that last verse. it makes me think of the way a young child is trying to be noticed, to get his father to "turn around" from whatever is occupying him, be it work, stress, indifference, and tell his son that he is proud of him. this comment obviously comes late, but i have started listening to this album again recently, always loved this one song, mainly because of that ending.

General Comment:I never viewed the title as initials. I always thought the title was a cryptic way of pronouncing Jesus (Gjs). Today is actually easter sunday and Christians say "He is risen", "He is risen indeed". I wonder if the song was intended to have double meaning.

General Comment:this is definitely about his mother! at first i thought it was a girlfriend but now i realize that "gjs" could easily be his mothers initials. it makes more sense.

General Comment:I think this definitely has to be one of Chris Simpsons better songs...has anyone listened to Zookeeper?

General Comment:This song is amazing beyond words. A few corrections, though:

    >>And I know I'm done
Should be "And I know I'm not"

Also, the line below it ("And I can") really belongs in that verse. The lines are a response to "Too proud to hope too weak to climb", like he's saying And I Know I'm not (too proud) And I Can (climb).

    >>Like the stitches dissolved
    >>And the wounds all heal in time
Should be "Let the stitches dissolve
Let the wounds all heal in time"

General Comment:this song is actually written by Chris to his father. GJS is his father's initials (simpson being the last name like chris). he wrote it for his dad to explain how he wishes he could be a man as good as him one day. it's really good.

General Comment:I'm not even a Christian anymore... but doesn't it seem blatantly obvious that he's talking about Jesus/God? Anyone? No? Well whatever... it wouldn't be the first time Chris has made Christian references... like in Dolorosa.

General Comment:I think this song is about his mother. His mom rushes in his room on Easter morning to tell him "he is risen"...like, get up little boy easter has come. And then he moves into talking about how his mother gives him strength when he was weak, and he hopes that someday she'll be proud of him.

General Comment:i think it's about god. i wouldn't except for the first verse -- "he is risen" blah blah blah. you know how it goes :-)

but yes... completely emotional and beautiful.
