Ever since I was a young boy,
I've played the silver ball.
From Soho down to Brighton
I must have played them all.
But I ain't seen nothing like him
In any amusement hall
That deaf dumb and blind kid
Sure plays a mean pin ball!

He stands like a statue,
Becomes part of the machine.
Feeling all the bumpers
Always playing clean.
He plays by intuition,
The digit counters fall.
That deaf dumb and blind kid
Sure plays a mean pin ball!

He's a pin ball wizard
There has got to be a twist.
A pin ball wizard,
S'got such a supple wrist.

How do you think he does it? I don't know!
What makes him so good?'

He ain't got no distractions
Can't hear those buzzers and bells,
Don't see lights a flashin'
Plays by sense of smell.
Always has a replay,
'N' never tilts at all
That deaf dumb and blind kid
Sure plays a mean pin ball.

I thought I was
The Bally table king.
But I just handed
My pin ball crown to him.

Even on my favorite table
He can beat my best.
His disciples lead him in
And he just does the rest.
He's got crazy flipper fingers
Never seen him fall
That deaf dumb and blind kind
Sure plays a mean pin ball!!!

General Comment:People have all sorts of interpretations of this song not knowing it's context. This song is meant to be taken very literally because it's part of Tommy (which is The Who's first rock opera).

General Comment:I think this song is about the Battle of Stalingrad when Soviet Russia beat Hitler's advancing army......

    Nah... JK it's about Tommy

General Comment:This song is simply about a boy who plays pinball. If you look back in history to this particular year (decade) pinball and ping pong were the games of the day in arcades; campgrounds; wreckhalls; etc. There was little else until Asteroids hit in the late 70's. The song's just a story of a boy who plays pinball. It's what the IPhone and texting are to the current generation.

General Comment:If you assume that the "deaf, dumb and blind kid" is an autistic boy, the song would make more sense I think...

General Comment:It depends on your definition of reality, we have an ignorance of reality only to the extent that our minds set.

General Comment:the album is based on the fact that a human is blind to infinity and reality, paralled by the autistic child so yeah tommy is autistic( deaf dumb and blind)

General Comment:Umm I've listened to this song at least a hundred times and can never quite figure out the meaning so I'm guessing it's something really obvious I'm missing or something really deep, my ideas so far are:

No matter how hard you work there's always someone better than you to take away your title

    Never under estimate your opponent

Two people battling back and forth

Or really I guess it could just be about pinball

Anyways no matter the meaning it's a sick song
