She was a girl from Birmingham
She just had an abortion
She was a case of insanity
Her name was Pauline, she lived in a tree
She was a no-one who killed her baby
She sent her letters from the country
She was an animal
She was a bloody disgrace
Body, I'm not an animal
Body, I'm not an animal
Dragged on a table in a factory
Illegitimate place to be
In a packet in a lavatory
Die little baby, screaming
Body, screaming fucking bloody mess
Not an animal, it's an abortion
Body, I'm not an animal
Mummy, I'm not an abortion
Throbbing squirm
Gurgling bloody mess
I'm not a discharge
I'm not a loss in protein
I'm not a throbbing squirm
Ah
Fuck this and fuck that
Fuck it all and fuck the fucking brat
She don't want a baby who looks like that
I don't want a baby that looks like that
Body, I'm not an animal
Body, an abortion
Body, I'm not an animal
Body, I'm not an animal
An animal
I'm not an animal
I'm not an animal, an animal, an
I'm not a body
I'm not an animal, an animal
I'm not an animal
Mummy
Ugh

In 2000, John Lydon went on the record as pro-choice, supporting the choice of a 13-year-old French girl to use the morning after pill without her parents' knowledge. In an interview, Lydon is quoted as identifying himself as neither pro- nor anti-abortion. He believes the decision belongs to the pregnant woman. In the same interview, Lydon speaks of the song in relation to his mother's miscarriage and how one should not misconstrue that incident as being anti-abortion.

It doesn't matter what he believes personally - it's how the text is interpreted and what it can be made to say by those who interpret it. He recorded the song, and now the song is much bigger than he is.

This is a perfect anti-abortion text. Make of it whatever you will...

John Lydon was (at the time he sang this one at least)a drunken, profane inarticulate lout. Who gives a rip what he was trying to say, in his anarchic incoherent rebellion? Like Bow Wow Wow, he was a piece of commodified pseudo-revolution - cooked up by Malcolm McLaren.

It was a pop-culture rebellion and fashion stimulus at best.

"Shock the bourgeoisie" is not the same as Revolution.

I'm sure you probably dislike my response. Abortion is murder.
Jesus is Lord.
um, no.
