Hello, hello, is anyone there?
Hello, is anyone there?

Hello, is anyone there?

M1 A1
At a thousand miles an hour
Gorillaz got the base drum
Gorillaz say I want some, some

La la la la la la la hey
La la la la la la la hey
La la la la la la la hey
La la la la la la la hey

M1 A1
A thousand miles an hour
Gorillaz with the beat drum
Say I want some

They go M1 A1
A thousand miles an hour
Gorillaz with the base drum
Keep that sound

Can you hear me
I said M1 A1
La la la la la la la hey
La la la la la la la hey

General Comment:It's not about the M1A1 Abrams... the gun shoots much faster than 1000mph, the muzzle velocity of an APFSDS-T round is around 5500 feet per second, also much faster than any rifle would fire even with a subcal saboted round or SLAP round. APFSDS-T meaning Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot - Tracer. SLAP meaning Saboted Light Armor Penetrator.

General Comment:Anyone notice similarities between this song and the Modern Lovers song "Roadrunner"? They're sorta few and far between, but there are some pretty glaring similarities. Especially the chorus part with the similar word patterns and the "(X) miles an hour" stuff. Totally not saying Albarn ripped off anybody, that's for sure - they're still more different than they are similar. I'm just saying that influence is such cool thing. I just think it's very possible for M1A1 to have been inspired by Roadrunner, in the same way that Roadrunner was inspired by The Velvet Underground.

I know this is primarily a "song meanings" forum before it's anything else, so I guess just as far as what their relationship might mean in terms of song meaning could just mean that some of M1A1's meaning could be based off of Roadrunner's meaning. Aside from that, that's all I've got.

General Comment:Well. I don't think this song is about war, but I'm definitely going with the Abrams theory. When I first heard this song I thought of zombies and a helicopter coming to rescue some humans from zombies. But now days I think of the Gorillaz with a freshly purchased M1 A1, tearing around the desert singing this anthem.

And yeah, shells don't travel as fast as bullets and would quite likely hit a thousand miles per hour at some point in the trajectory (they shoot 'em upwards for distance seige).

General Comment:I thought the lyrics were

"M1 A1, thousand miles an hour, Gorillaz listening to Pete Tong, saying what's Sour"

Which totally makes sense if its about tearing about on arterial roads. It was always my track to listen to going from Sheffield to Lincoln, which includes sections of the M1 and the A1, fast as I could late at night.

General Comment:Mach 1- 1000 mph. the song's meter can be broken up into numbers divisible by 1000. for example, the part of the song that goes, La la la la la la la hey, is triplets at 200 bpm except only playing the downbeat.

A1- the song is in the key of A.

    just something interesting.

General Comment:i nominate this best song to listen to during a thunderstorm. it needs to be a big, loud one. especially during the intro. the effect is squared when you have thunder and lightning blasting in the background simulteaneously.
