Lyrics for Israel's Son as interpreted by spitfirek7

Israel's Son Lyrics
Hate is what I feel for you,
And I want you to know that I want you dead.
You're late for the execution...
If you're not here soon, I'll kill your friend instead.

All the pain I feel
Couldn't start to heal
Although I would like it to

I hate you and your apathy.
You can leave, you can leave, I don't want you here.
I'm playing this pantomime,
But I don't see you showing any signs of fear.

All the pain I feel
Couldn't start to heal
Although I would like it to
This time I'm for real
My pain can not heal
You will be dead when I'm through

[Chorus]

Pain and execution
Put your hands in the air
Put your hands in the air
The air... yeah

I am, I am Israel's son
Israel's son I am
Put your hands in the air
Put your hands in the air

It's about wartime atrocities I think. Did anyone here about that murder in America, where a guy and his friend killed his parents and kid brother then kicked the bodies around the house whilst listening to this song?

Killing people to this song? That's absurd! I've never killed anyone to this song, nor would I ever consider it... no sir, I listen to heavier stuff when I kill people.

a few years ago, there was a big thing about the album being banned because it was causing kids to kill themselves and stuff. i can;t remember the exact details now, cause i was young,

so this was the song my teacher was talking about. oh well. to me, this song is about spite, about hating somebody for making you lose something, so bad you want him dead. i hope i'll never have to dedicate this song to anybody 'cause if i do i would probably feel so lost and hopeless to have hate chewing me up and spitting me out.

Israel's son could be a reference to either one of two groups: Israeli's or Palestinians. It is about wartime atrocities according to John Waton, but I think specifically about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East fueled by the hate each of those two groups feel for each other. Each think they are given the land by God, “I am, I am Israel's son/Israel's son I am.” Palestine uses terrorism to further their goals, and without fail, Israel strikes back militarily, hence the lines "If you're not here soon, I'll kill your friend instead," and "You can leave, you can leave, I don't want you here." I think the lines "All the pain I feel/Couldn't start to heal/Although I would like it to" voice the desire to have peace, but because this has lasted almost half a century now, there is no other choice but to keep fighting. One line, though, I believe is directed at the rest of the world, "I hate you and your apathy," in that most of the rest of the world simply ignore the horrid circumstances prevalent in the region.

If I had written this song when I was 16, I would probably get in serious trouble. These guys got a record deal. Fair? Maybe.

Daniel Johns has said basically every song on Frogstomp was inspired by t.v. He probably wrote this about some conflict in Israel he saw on tv but i think a lot of the confused emotion has to do with his own life. He was 15 and taking some shit at school when he wrote all these songs. The "apathy" bit i think he basically knicked from Kurdt like a lot of the themes on this record even if silverchair sound much more like Pearl Jam on the first record. On their second album there's a song called "Abuse Me" that reminds me of Nirvana's "Rape Me" lyrically and thematically anyway. Their third album is less hard but still way more original "Neon Ballroom."

fucking rage, that's all i've got to say. if i ever feel this much hatred towards someone or something, I'm pretty sure someone will end up dead, even if it's me. Even frm the start, with the bass: I feel it.

First off, all these war theories are wrong. This song was inspired by a short story called "Damien and Pythius" READ IT, it'll make the song much more easy to understand. Second, Israel is an angel. His son, was Lucifer, or more commonly known as Satan or the Devil, and yes, it is about hating someone enough to the point of killing them.

this song is about the sun slowly burning out on the martians time because the martians were horrible enviormentalist and polluted the entire solar system and since they're gone and we're all that's left the sun is just taking out it's revenge on us...the song was supposed to be called israel's sun but the writing wasn't clear and it was printed the wrong way so they just let it be

It's about Jesus Christ, his torture and his march towards the cross. Basically his last few days on the planet before the ressurection took place.

"If your not here soon I'll kill your friend instead" is about how the followers of Christ were hunted down and killed.

"Pain and execution. Put your hands in the air" is about how a lot of people at the time rejoiced in the killing of Jesus because they believed him to be a false prophet.

"I hate you and your apathy.
You can leave, you can leave, I don't want you here.
I'm playing this pantomime,
But I don't see you showing any signs of fear."

Many people who disagreed with Jesus disagreed with the fact that he didn't show hate, only love and compassion and that was sometimes mistaken as apathy because he really only had one side. The not showing any fear had to do with his conviction while he took the tortue that was given to him.

It's a pretty deep song, and it does tie into a lot of the conflicts in the Middle East right now, but I believe that my explanation above has some basis as well.

I think this song is about hating someone so much and just wanting them dead. This song is amazing anyways. Silverchair rocks.

A: Israel was NOT an angel.
B: OSUbuckeye420 hit it dead on.
C: Silverchair was obviously influenced heavily by Nirvana because they got the "Silver" part of their name by the mis-spelled track "Sliver" originally meant to be titled "Silver" which Kurt wrote.
D: If you are going to go kill somebody, figure out what the song is about first. Cause those kids are morons...
E: The kids killing people to this song is another irony in Silverchair's relation to Nirvana. In the early nineties, a couple guys raped a girl whilst singing "Rape Me" by Nirvana. It was all over the news and Nirvana ended up coming out and saying: you people are missing the point - our music was never meant to inspire crime....

Could this song be about the execution of Jesus? Because he was from Israel, and some people may refer to him as "Israels son" as he spread the word of god to the Jews and the Israelis have always been known as the "Chosen Race" .....just a thought, I'm not saying thats for sure. But this song seems to have a really deep meaning and I thought it may have been biblical.
