When the rain comes it seems that everyone has
gone away
When the night falls you wonder if you shouldn't
find someplace
To run and hide
Escape the pain
But hiding's such lonely thing to do

I can't stop the rain
From falling down on you again
I can't stop the rain
But I will hold you 'til it goes away

When the rain comes you blame it on the things that
you have done
When the storm fades you know that rain must fall
on everyone
So Rest awhile
It'll be alright
No one loves you like I do

When the rain comes
I will hold you!

General Comment:If this song is meant to be from the perspective of a christian saying the words to a fellow believer, then it is very inspiring and beautiful.

If it supposed to be God speaking then I think Third Day has missed it by a mile. God can't stop the rain? Such an impotent diety is of no comfort to me, and certainly doesn't fit the view that scripture has of God.

Lyric Correction:This song made a grown man cry (me). A few days ago I was learning to play this song on the guitar, and I started crying like a baby. I lost my wife almost 3 years ago, and at that moment it was like God was trying to tell me something through this song. He was saying that when my wife was dying, in excruciating pain, in my most desperate moments, I would pray. Many times even though I prayed, my faith was weak. I didn't know if God was listening. He told me that he was listening! I stood by my wife till the end. i cleaned and changed her wounds, I held the bucket when she vomited, I lied down next to her when she was in the hospital, I encouraged her to keep fighting, until God felt it was time to take her. God gave me the strength to do all those things. I look back and I can't imagine how I could have held on as long as I did. I now realize that even though I thought I was alone, I was not. He couldn't stop the rain, but he held me till it went away.

General Comment:This song has also helped me through some rough situations in my life. I love it because it is so true that even though God wont stop the rain, He will still hold you through it and also give you a reward of strength in the end.

General Comment:I never heard this song before until just recently. I've had a rough couple weeks with personal problems and just getting out of a realationship, and friend Maria told me to give it a listen. She told me that when I listen to it, to think of it as if she wrote it for me. I listened to it, was a little speechless, listened again, and loved it. What a touching song to the heart. Thank you Maria, I love you

General Comment:When Mark wrote this song he had the death of his father in mind. He is saying that he knows what people are going through. It is him saying that God can get you through anything.

General Comment:It talks about how when trials ("rain") happen in our life we ask God to stop the rain, but He is telling us that he can't stop the rain:

(also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. - romans 5:3-4)

but he will "hold us till it goes away", he will comfort us and love us and guide us through our sufferings.

because "rain must fall on everyone", if there was no darkness how could we see the light.

"No one loves you like I do" - God's love for us is so amazing we can't even comprehend the kind of love that doesn't present itself in taking away our sufferings. He loves us so much that He wants the very best for us and wants us to become closer to Him, so He painfully allows us to suffer, so that we can be even nearer to Him in the end.
