Man, it's a hot one
Like seven inches from the midday sun
Well, I hear you whispering in the words, to melt everyone
But you stay so cool
My muñequita, my Spanish Harlem, Mona Lisa
You're my reason for reason
The step in my groove
And if you said this life ain't good enough
I would give my world to lift you up
I could change my life to better suit your mood
Because you're so smooth
[Chorus]
And it's just like the ocean under the moon
Oh, it's the same as the emotion that I get from you
You got the kind of lovin' that can be so smooth, yeah
Give me your heart, make it real or else forget about it
But I'll tell you one thing
If you would leave it would be a crying shame
In every breath and every word
I hear your name calling me out
Out from the barrio
You hear my rhythm on your radio
You feel the turning of the world, so soft and slow
It's turning you round and round
And if you said this life ain't good enough
I would give my world to lift you up
I could change my life to better suit your mood
Because you're so smooth
[Chorus: x2]
Or else forget about it
Or else forget about it
Let's not forget about it
Give me your heart, make it real
Let's not forget about it
Let's not forget about it
Let's not forget about it
Let's not forget about it
Let's not forget about it
Like seven inches from the midday sun
Well, I hear you whispering in the words, to melt everyone
But you stay so cool
My muñequita, my Spanish Harlem, Mona Lisa
You're my reason for reason
The step in my groove
And if you said this life ain't good enough

Let's not forget about it

Santana lends his credibility to a variety of artists on the CD "Supernatural". Synergy and mutual respect and lots of good music are the result. Thats classy.
Now the song "Smooth".
First of all, this is a great crowd pleaser if you do karaoke. (Practicing at home before taking it in front of people is always best of course). Growl the lyrics as much or as little as you would like, you can probably get away with it.
Rhyme scheme: good combos (ocean and emotion) and increasing choppiness as the chorus progresses (moon, then you, then smooth) seems to present a pleading quality to the words. Then the last line (not rhyming with the first three) presents an air of finality and ultimatum. This turns around the sense of the singer getting carried along / carried away to suddenly taking control.
Overall tone: I sing this song to my wife (at least partially, as I said, at karaoke and so I am singing to whoever is there, too). She does not think that it is complimentary. I am not sure about whether it is more critical or admiring of the woman who is the subject of the song. But the singer / writer is sure he is willing to risk what he has (the heat that -- like summer-- may only last as long as a season , the sensuality that may or may not be shallow and temporary on her part) in order to possibly make it permanent. It is enough for him simply to make his intentions known, loudly, firmly, like declaring himself as a man. Ultimately I guess it is both complimentary and demanding, pointing out a flaw and declaring her as his perfect match.
Depth: Okay, this may be "reading too much into it". But, here goes. He wants it all: her heart and her body. He wants it to last. He knows that in order to make it last, he has to make sure he is expressing his love and affection to her. The song is the beginning of that and a sign that he is willing to always pursue her. In return she has to remember to take care of his needs. That is what he expects and demands and the only way that they can stay together if they both remember to take care of each other. So the line "Give me your heart make it real or lets forget about" becomes "lets not forget about it".
I found this song in my itunes last week and it has been playing nonstop since then! If a radio could experience an orgasm, this song is the sound that orgasm would sound like!
but not as good as the original.
Baby, Josh.. I'd Give My Life For You.. You Complete Mee!!!! <33.
