This song is about leaving categories and borders behind and just care about where and how to find *love*.
See, where the whole "gay"-discussion has brought us: To love people of one's own gender became just one more category. There is no liberty and no freedom, just rules and borders. The most used cuss words on Youtube are "gay" and "fag". Thank you, "liberation"!
We are categorizing, even if there is nothing to categorize: Two boys which are at the very beginning of puberty are kissing each other. What are your dirty thoughts seeing this? Think about it... (and thats what the vid is about ā see the beauty instead of jugdging)
And why are we categorizing? Because of fear! A strange idea of "moral" and "order" determines our whole life, killing the rare beauty of love. And it doesnt matter if something beautiful fighted or accepted officially ā it will die if pigeonholed.
See the beauty and love instead of judging ā for me that's the main message of everything Sigur RĆ³s does.
And that's why I like them so very much.

Its like.. no matter how sad, how lonely, nothing lasts forever, this too will pass.
Since I last posted the meaning of this song has become even more powerful. Typically, I follow the story of the song as a relationship that climbs so high, reaches a new level of love and intimacy(much like the video) but ends, and this song is about an end. But all happens for a reason, one can look back and say, wow, that was real.
or maybe it's about whatever we feel it to be about. Sigur Ros amaze me.

I'm pretty sure it was made as a prop for the video, and a damn cool one at that.
I'm suprised and disturbed my some of the comments here. Bigotry has never led to anything but pain.
I'm also a little dissapointed to hear that the one boy was a girl, though naturally for the purposes of making the video that certainly would have been a wise move for the directors. As a visual piece the video is flawless, and the emotional impact is powerful. This song moves me ..to the point that all other music sounds like radio pop.
Also, surely the myspace accounts of the people involved is a little personal to place on here? It's a little bizzare to see them now.. they are my age and I feel in awe of them for being a part of something so powerful.
