Heftur Með GaddavÃr à Kjaftinum Sem Blæðir Mig
Læstur Er Lokaður Inn à Búri
Dýr Nakinn Ber à Mig
Og Bankar Upp à Frelsari
Ótaminn Setur à Ný BatterÃ
Og Hleður à Ný (X4)
Við Tætum Tryllt Af Stað
Út à Óvissuna
Þar Til Að Við Rústum Öllu Og Reisum Aftur
Aftur à Ný (X3)
Aftur à Bak Þar Sem Við RÃðum
Aftur Með GaddavÃr
à Kjaftinum Sem RÃfur Upp Gamalt Gróið Sár
Er Orðinn Ryðguð Sál
Rafmagnið Búið
Mig Langar Að Skera
Og Rista Sjálfan Mig à Hol
En Þori Það Ekki
Frekar Slekk Ég à Mér
Aleinn à Ný

The discussion was eventually swayed into and about Ny Batteri and the topic of rape and sexual abuse came up attached with it. Abuse that occurs from someone close to the victim/survivor and the trust mixed with the role of the parent/family/community member that has betrayed and the wounds that are opened so easily by triggers etc.
I hear a few people say that they cannot believe Sigur Ros would ever have such darkness in their works but in reality this is art. This is the safe place to express such energies and especially about a topic like rape/abuse that is looked over so easily throughout the past, especially when it comes down to the male as the victim/survivor.
As all art and music in my view has it's own meaning personally, I don't feel attached to a set definition or meaning that come from the artist or fan. It's up to the individual to define. I found this interesting as a topic in the whole itself because Sigur Ros are so awake, aware and fucking beautiful that I tend to listen to certain stories and views from those I feel I connect with on levels.---regards
For me it's about human's ability to hurt and destroy... The world is hostile, impersonal and cruel; and sometimes, in order to survive, we must do unforgivable things. We act like unrational animals so we can survive and be part of the world we live. We become slaves, victims of the world and sometimes you can't fight back. Then you get the strenght to fight back until you get tired and cycle begins again... One day you find out what you become, and you rather isolate yourself so you cannot hurt or be hurt... The song can also relate to the people who hurt others without knowing what they are doing until the damage is done. I really love the metaphor they used. Maybe it's about somebody he hurt..
The song can have many interpretations. I really love it and it transport me into another dimenssion.
I interpret this as incredible metaphors which symbolise a caged animal, such as a bear, perhaps.
Barbwire Stapled In My Mouth That Bleeds Me
Locked In A Cage
Naked Animals Beat Me
And A Savior Knocks
An Untamed Puts In New Batteries
And Charges Once Again (X4)
We Set Off
Into The Unknown
Until We Destroy Everything And Are Dominant
Once Again (X3)
Once Again In The Back Where We Fuck (Ride)
Again The Barbwire
In My Mouth That Rips Up An Old Healed Wound
Have Become A Rusty Soul
The Electricity Is Gone
I Want To Cut
And Slice Myself To Death
But I Don't Have The Courage
I Rather Turn Myself Off
I'm Alone Again
At the start, Sigur Ros are immediately talk about being locked in a cage.
They then go on to say 'naked animals beat me'. To me, this signifies humans acting like animals - treating the animal badly in this cage that it is held in.
Lines 4-6 symbolise a human coming along to feed and hydrate the animal. The human is portrayed as a 'saviour', even though they are only giving basic needs. These lines signify the animal receiving hope once again.
This leads me onto my next point, regarding lines 7-10. To me, this implies that the animal is lead into a dream-like state, a sense of hope, as it has regained its energy. It dreams of being free and dominant; in charge of its own life - something it has never experienced before, as the lyric says 'into the unknown'.
This is repeated three times in the song until the animal is brought back to reality. It has returned to being beaten; 'again the barbwire'. I find the line 'Once Again In The Back Where We Fuck' interesting, as to me, it shows us that it is forced into breeding. It is then that the animal realises that there is no hope left, as the line 'have become a rusty soul' implies. It has become weak, as 'rusty' implies that it has not been looked after well, and it is tiring before its time.
Next, 'the electricity is gone' continues the idea that hope is lost, as it symbolises that the lights have gone off; there is no light at the end of the tunnel.
Anyway, at the end he describes being 'alone again', which pretty uch speaks for itself.
That's just my interpretation anyway, it's probably a million miles from correct.
but that's just me.
it isnt fuck,it's ride,as in ride a horse
dÃseskræst.

i love sigur ros and collecting all their albums and even their live performances.
my friend give me a video - and hell he don't even remember where he got it -
it's sigur ros performing live on ny batteri, at least the music is ny batteri, but somehow i figured out that the lyric is absolutely different from the original version in agaetis byrjun. i've search various lyric site and cannot find the lyric.
the 5 minutes video starts with short interview with sigur ros in a bus taking them to the concert. On the stage, jonsi uses colorfull guitar with flower pattern (??),orri wears red shirt. they sing ny batteri but somehow the language seems gibberish to me, maybe hopelandic --aww..sorry for being a know-it-all, i dont speak icelandic, not even english..teehee-
anyone seen this video??please kindly tell me where when was that concert, and mostly what language they use, the meaning and lyric would be great... pleaaassee..it haunts me for years.. (-_-)''
