Did you ever think of me
As your best friend

Did I ever think of you
I'm not complaining

I never tried to feel
I never tried to feel this vibration
I never tried to reach
I never tried to reach your eden

Did I ever think of you
As my enemy

Did you ever think of me
I'm complaining

I never tried to feel
I never tried to feel this vibration
I never tried to reach
I never tried to reach your eden

It's about regret and not giving a relationship the chance it deserved. It's about wanting more and giving less, hearing but not listening. It's about two people that might have hurt each other.

In this song, she is admitting her part in the failed relationship- if only she had loved completely, she might have discovered his true being, she might have found her paradise as well...

General Comment:I think eden is about unrequitted love. two people that at one point been close. Something happend. And fingers were pointed as to why the relationship ended. Even though they still loved each other, there alot of questions unanswered. And the person singing the song was hurt the most.
    How do I know?

    Experience.
And I think Battersea is kind of like part 2. Same music. Just different. Basically the person trying to get over what happend.

General Comment:lyrically, this is Hoover at their finest. Sarah Brightman's cover is lovely, but I love the BWPM and SDaLt versions more.

General Comment:I've been in a situation which just reflects Eden lyrics. I used to have a best friend who I secretly was in love with. I never tried to let him know because I was scared he would never take me as more a friend. And once he fell in love with a girl and didn't tell me. And, which is much worse, we estranged, he began to avoid me, to lie to me - as I found out later. And finally he betrayed me.

    As for my situation:
"Did you ever think of me as your best friend?" - I know wonder if he ever really considered me as his best friend.
"Did I ever think of you, I'm not complaining" - if it's not so, I would understand...
"I never tried to feel this vibration" - I never expected that he would ever betray me, I couldn't see the signs of our friendship falling apart.
"I never tried to reach your Eden" - I always wanted, but never tried to tell him how I loved him.
"Did I ever think of you as my enemy?" - I ask myself and answer is "yes", after all we've been through.
"Did you ever think of me?" - it's kind of desperation, maybe this person not only didn't count me as his best friend, but never really cared about me at all.
"I'm complaining" - I finally admit. Another example of desperation, of regret.

So that story's in the past, but maybe it would come close to the real meaning of this great song.

General Comment:i think she just fell in love with a guy, who obviously doesn't want her as his gf. so she asks questions, how he felt about her, as a friend, as an enemy?
&she apologizes for loving him; she never meant to love him it just accidently happened, she's probably just insecure.

General Comment:When I hear this, I picture the narrator of the song silently observing her old boyfriend. The two might have just broken or he might be at the grocery store with another woman. I feel like the lyrics are all in her mind, though, because of the phrase "Did I ever think of you, As my enemy." She's being retrospective, perhaps blaming herself for the failure of their relationship. The 'Eden' is the perfect relationship that the partner wanted, but that she kept them from.

General Comment:I changed my mind on this one.

I think she's trying to casually ask what he thinks of her...and by the end she admits that yes, she really is complaining.

winglessdreamer-- I think when she says 'i never tried to reach your eden," maybe she means that she never tried to reach that secret part of him...she never tried to get to know him fully like she probably should have.
