Lyrics for Broken Man as interpreted by spitfirek7

Broken Man Lyrics
My fears hunt me down
Capturing my memories
The frontier of loss
They try to escape across the street where
Jesus stripped bare
And raped the spirit he was supposed to nurture
In the name of my in the name of my

Born of a broken man
But not a broken man
Born of a broken man
Never a broken man

Like autumn leaves
His sense fell from him
An empty glass of himself
Shattered somewhere within
His thoughts like a hundred moths
Trapped in a lampshade
Somewhere within
Their wings banging and burning
On through endless nights
Forever awake he lies shaking and starving
Praying for someone to turn off the light

Born of a broken man
But not a broken man
Born of a broken man
Never a broken man

Why does he talk about Jesus? I thought this song was about his father.

His thoughts like a hundred moths
Trapped in a lampshade
Somewhere within
"Their wings banging and burning
On through endless nights
Forever awake he lies shaking and starving
Praying for someone to turn off the light"

that part is the most powerful of the song.

Carrera is right. His dad had a breakdown and went crazy and spent days pent up in his house destroying his artwork. If Zach was with him (his parents were divorced) then his dad made him participate in the religious fasting and the destruction of his artwork. As for the part about Jesus, Jesus is representative of religion in general. When he says Jesus raped the spirit, hes talking about how it destroyed his father mentally. It tore him apart. The whole song is about he remembers what happened to his dad and is swearing not to end up like him: A half-sane religious fanatic.

All you guys have said about his father and his religious aspects are true. In the chorus when he says "Born of a broken man but not a broken man" he is saying that although when he saw his father he had to practice his religion, he didnt let it "Brake" him.
