Lyrics for Morning Glory as interpreted by kevin

Morning Glory Lyrics
(song begins with helicopter sound FX)
(radio conversation between a man and a woman mumbled in the
background, but I can't understand what they're saying)
(FX and radio fade out to background music, then the lyrics begin)

All your dreams are made
When you're chained to the mirror and the razor blade
Today's the day that all the world will see
Another sunny afternoon
Walking to the sound of my favorite tune
Tomorrow never knows what it doesn't know too soon
Need a little time to wake up
Need a little time to wake up wake up
Need a little time to wake up
Need a little time to rest your mind
You know you should so I guess you might as well
What's the story morning glory?
Well
You need a little time to wake up wake up
Well
What's the story morning glory?
Well
Need a little time to wake up wake up
(guitar solo)
All your dreams are made
When you're chained to the mirror and the razor blade
Today's the day that all the world will see
Another sunny afternoon
Walking to the sound of my favorite tune
Tomorrow never knows what it doesn't know too soon
Need a little time to wake up
Need a little time to wake up wake up
Need a little time to wake up
Need a little time to rest your mind
You know you should so I guess you might as well
What's the story morning glory?
Well
Need a little time to wake up wake up
Well
What's the story morning glory?
Well
You need a little time to wake up wake up
Well
What's the story morning glory?
Well
Need a little time to wake up wake up
Well
What's the story morning glory?
(I said) well
Need a little time to wake up wake up
(yet another guitar solo)
(back to helicopter sound FX)
(more mumbled radio conversation, then song ends)

I was born under my mother's arm, and we watched a lot of musicals. Bye, Bye Birdie was one of them we watched often. One of the first songs is "The Telephone Hour" which has the lyrics

" Hi, Nancy!
-Hi, Helen!
What's the story, morning glory?
What's tale, nightingale?
-Tell me quick about Hugo and Kim!
-Hi, Margie!
-Hi, Alice!
What's the story, morning glory?
-What's the word, humming bird?"

So, naturally that's what I think of most. Though, I don't completely disregard that Oasis could have heard this song, and that it may have had some influence on the lyrics, I would probably say that it's the drug reference. Who sings about a woody?

Definately one of the best pop songs of the 90s. Great reference to "Tomorrow Never Knows", which is an amazing Beatles song. Liam's voice on the intro is amazing.

A lot of Oasis's songs, especially in their early two albums, sound all manic and coked up. I mean, "Supersonic" is so manic and sounds so powerful, it makes you want to strangle someone for no reason and goes on about "sniffing alka-seltzer" for almost an entire verse This song too, with all its distortion and fading in and out, sounds like a drugged up state. Oasis may well have written songs like this while on drugs, and judging how awful most of their later albums are, I'd say that their musical genius is unfortunately due to all the coke. Which is too bad, and means you probably can't expect to hear a decent hit from them again.

As for the Gallaghers saying they never took coke - er, anyone with a brain will lie to reporters and the public if they took drugs. Otherwise it could be used as testimony against them if they were arrested.

I do believe it is about drugs.
"Need a little time to wake up," meaning perhaps that he needs time to sober, or needs time to get his life together and he will stop doing the drugs.
"Walking to the sound of my favourite tune," walking through life while on drugs to his favourite tune, being high.
And Lastly "All your dreams are made, when your chained to a mirror and the razor blade," pretty much explains itself. All your dreams are made when on the drug, as in the drug controls you, you dont control the drug.
Its an amazing song, it was the opening one for their concert my sister told me, and I can only imagine how incredible that was.

This song is NOT about drugs, it's about waking up with an erection (morning glory). 'Need a little time to wake up'

I love how everyone says that it definately is or is not about drugs. Did you write the song? Probably not, so how can you say what it is or isn't about? It sounds a lot like it's about drugs, but that doesn't mean that it has to be. But seriously, who writes a song about morning wood?
And to the moron who said that morning glory is a term for acid, good job sounding retarded. Morning glory is a flower. It's seeds contain LSA which is not acid, but kind of a little cousin to acid.

I'd say IMHO that this is a song about drugs. Firstly, the auther noel was a coke addict for about 4 years, this is definitely true as he has admitted it. Noel has also said that the first two albums were all about 'drinking, shagging and taking drugs'. The mirror and razor blade are common drug paraphenalia as has already been mentioned. "What's the story morning glory?" is sometimes used to greet someone who has previously been on a coke induced high. Noel says someone said it to him in that situation and that's where he got the phrase from. This song is ace, and to whoever said the acoustic version on There and Then is great...well done sir! I salute your taste!

I really don't get why there's so much argument over whether or not it's about drugs. What else COULD "chained to the mirror and the razor blade" refer to? Really.

Nice touch with the Beatles bit in the verse, which also feeds into the drug aspect (although the Gallaghers were probably more interested in licking Beatle boots at the time). "Tomorrow Never Knows" was during the whole fascination with Eastern philosophy (namely, the Tibetan Book of the Dead) and Timothy Leary. What's Leary known for advocating? Acid.

It could be about coke. When u take it u feel very big and up 4 anything, it makes you look on the good things around you. So "All your dreams are made" by it, cos that is how you feel when "you're chained to the mirror and the razor blade".

personally, i think that its just about getting up in the morning and feeling kind of run down and unimportant.

the radio and helicopter=the noises that wake you up

All your dreams are made
When you're chained to the mirror and the razor blade
=
geting up and shaving, even though you dream of a better, less monotonus life.

todays the day that all the world will see=deciding to do something about your crappy life, and show the world that you're worth something.

need a little time to wake up.....=when you wake up, you're really tired, and you know that you have to go to work, but all you want to do is lie there and sleep away your meaningless life.

morning glory...= well, im undecided about this. the first time i heard it, i thought that it was a kind of sarcastic barb, implying that he is happy in order to ridicule how crap he feels.
however, i know morning glory means erection, and it does fit in to my version of the song (the best part of your day is that little bit of pleasure that you get from waking up with a boner). im leaning towards this definition at the moment.

but i deffinatly dont think its drugs. just because the author once had an addiction, dosnt automatically mean that all of his songs are about drugs. plus it dosnt really fit in to my version.

thankyou for listening (or reading, or whatever) to my opinion.

I also think it is about drugs, but I think it's about him telling a girl he respects (or used to) how much the addiction has a hold on her life.
I thought it was like he was asking her why shy would throw her life away on something like that when she had so much more going for her.
"All your dreams are made
when you're chained to the mirror and the razor blade"
Means to me:
"You've got no where to go (no new dreams or original thought) when you're addicted to coke"

Uhhh...Morning Glory is also a vine-dwelling flower. It's seeds (when uncoated) are contain LSA, a hallucinogen and relative of LSD. I took a few morning glory trips a while back, and they're a bit like LSD.

Anyone notice how many Oasis songs are just one verse and one chorus?? Then they just repeat the same verse later along with the chorus a few more times? Lazy songwriting if you ask me, great song though. Imagine how great it would be if there was more than 1 verse/chorus repeated over and over.

any irish people might have noticed an article in the irish times (that 'weather eye' column, at the back) which offers an altogether different interpretation of this song.

apparently, the song refers to a ''meterological phenominon'', the formation of ''a huge roll cloud that often forms at this time of year over australias north coast''. who knew?

the writer also uses a 'single quote' that consistes of a line from 'shes electric' and two lines from morning glory that dont actually come together anywhere in the song.
