I cross the oceans
I cross the seas
I cross the mountains
Like a newer disease

I cross the borders
I cross the line
Never tell, see the light
Till the end of time

I've seen the canyons
I've seen the cities
I've seen the prisons
Takes such pity
When it comes to you
When it come to me
It's just money
Set's you free

hey my children...
What seems important, won't last forever
hey my children...
What seems important, won't last forever

Take a look at the earth, from a plane
You'll see the earth, cut up and plain
Take a look at L.A., from the sky
What you see, should make you cry

hey my children...
What seems important, won't last forever
hey my children...
What seems important, won't last forever

I'm the scum of the earth...
I'm the scum of the earth...
I'm the scum of the earth...
I'm the scum of the earth...
I'm the scum of the earth...
I'm the scum of the earth...
I'm the scum of the earth...
I'm the scum of the earth...
I'm the scum of the earth...
I am my cancer
I'm the scum of the earth...
I am my cancer
I'm the scum of the earth...
I am my cancer
I'm the scum of the earth...
I am my cancer
I'm the scum of the earth...

I am humanity
I am humanity
I am humanity
I am humanity

hey my children...
What seems important, won't last forever
hey my children...
What seems important, won't last forever
hey my children...
What seems important, won't last forever
hey my children...
What seems important, won't last forever

General Comment:I agree with the Smith monologue. That's the deal.

Humanity is the cancer of the world; IMO not because of any physical disease or environmental harm, but because of the huge value we put in things that don't really matter. We spend our lives gaining material things and hurting others, and in the end we don't really gain anything out of it. What seems important won't last forever. Because we do this, we're hurting the world in so many ways, and hurting ourselves as well.

General Comment:"Scum of the earth - I am humanity"

that about sums this one up. He's singing as a self-realized and cynical (and possibly insanely pleased with itself) race of self-absorbed ravagers of a planet.

Truth: since humanity has risen, the earth has undergone a type of transformation it has never undertaken. The entity that is singing is cynical, ignorant, and negligent of the way ecology had developed in balance before.

Kitsune's reference to "The Matrix"'s Smith's monologue was the first thing that came to me.

Irony in the matrix: didn't the robot race do exactly the same? Just remembering the completeness of the artificial ground cover they had built, as evident in Revolution.

General Comment:I think I cheesy line from 'The Matrix' Explains the entirety of this song...

'like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet'

General Comment:"What seems important won't last forever."

We're the consummate consumer society, we Americans.

A wedding or prom dress. A new car to trade in three years from now. A new CD that'll end up in the used bin.

I had to replace ToR and that's where I found it. It's staying in my collection for good, and this song is one of the reasons why.

General Comment:The cancer in this song is humanity. This song takes a negative look at humanity's environmental impact on the planet, and how we have spread and conquered the planet like a disease.

General Comment:its about diseases that can come from anywhere and goes everywhere it wants. and can not be stopped. over populated cities have troubles getting the correct amount of vaccines. "take a look at the earth, from a plane, youll see the earth, cut up and in pain" the world is getting hurt by the diseases we have. "take a look at LA from another sky, what you see, should make you cry" over populated city, not enough medicine for everyone. so many people homeless and sick. the spread of diseases.
