Lyrics for One as interpreted by spitfirek7

One Lyrics
Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same
Will it make it easier on you
Now you got someone to blame

You say
One love
One life
When it's one need
In the night
It's one love
We get to share it
It leaves you baby
If you don't care for it

Did I disappoint you?
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without

Well it's too late
Tonight
To drag the past out
Into the light
We're one
But we're not the same
We get to carry each other
Carry each other
One

Have you come here for forgiveness
Have you come tor raise the dead
Havew you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head
Did I ask too much
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
Now it's all I got
We're one
But we're not the same
We hurt each other
Then we do it again

You say
Love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law
You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
To what you got
When all you got is hurt

One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should

One life
With each other
Sisters
Brothers

One life
But we're not the same
We get to carry each other
Carry each other

One

One.

I love this song so much. U2 are music gods. Its a common theme, the way they begin it like a love song and end up singing about christianity and the entire human race.

Have you come here for forgiveness?
Have you come to raise the dead?
Have you come here to play jesus to the lepers in your head

Another great song from U2. One has many meanings you could interpret from the words such as
"Well it's too late Tonight To drag tha past out
Into the light" this lyric poses the question of what is forgiveness? All too often we search into the past to justify our arguements of today however when we do that all that hurt and pain previously left behind suddenly comes rushing to the surface. If this tactic is continued to be used as wide spread as it is, how can societies possibly move on and learn to coexist. If everyone were to listen and understand the wisdom of one all the social divides we cling to in order to mask our ignorance would disappear e.g. Racism, discrimination war and poverty.
An excellent song from u2 however mary J bliges yelling cover of the song was poor to put it mildly, her attempt undermines the meaning behind the inspirational words and every time i hear one from now on i can't help but recall the painful version she gave at the grammy awards despite bono's assistance.

i always thought tthis song referred to the lack of love fellow men show to one another. considering U2s vocal stance to the western attitude to Africa i always thought the love refrred to the love western countries aint showing to Africa. But then that just the way i listen to the song and try to enjoy and appreciate U2.

However on reading the posts here, it really might be the HIV story from father to son. because the first line ("did i dissapoint you") fits dat scenario better. Or maybe the western nations are asking Africa that same questions. i love d song and it sure suites many many scenarios.

there are many valid analyses from one tiwiex but the main one is of people serving themselves and the downfall of society as a result of that. AIDS, poverty, disease, war are all still thriving today beacause the majority of the human race clung to their ignorance for fear of opening their eyes and seeing themselves.

When I saw them last year Bono said it was written in total bitterness towards someone. There's so much truth in this, they really could have just released it again without Mary J Blige, they don't need her voice on this, it was already perfect and timeless.

I agree with xdvr, Mary J Blige has wrecked a timeless classic which is the best song from Achtung Baby and one of U2's best songs ever. She brings nothing new to the song. Bono will be the only person to ever sing this and make me feel th emotion intended.

I think the song was meant to have multiple meanings. But I think it's directed mostly towards the ignorance of the entire human race.

FINALLY SOLVED:

IT IS ABOUT A GAY GUY COMING OUT TO HIS FATHER.

THIS FROM BONO HIMSELF IN A ROLLING STONE INTERVIEW:

about the song "One": It's a father-and-son story. I tried to write about someone I knew who was coming out and was afraid to tell his father. It's a religious father and son. "You say love is a temple/Love's a higher law/You ask me to enter/But then you made me crawl."

I have a lot of gay friends and I've seen them screwed up from unloving family situations, which just are completely anti-Christian. If we know anything about God, it's that God is love. That's part of the song.

This song is about the suffering in Africa. its from the eyes of a suffering child in Africa crying out the western world. I went to see U2 and Bono explained this before he sang it. I thought it was about relationships etc but if you analyse the lyrics you can see where he's coming from. top stuff.

campbc your comment has made the most sense. once you read the lyrics and then apply it to that situation it fits perfectly.

I heard the mary j blige version and i think its beautiful, she does an amazing job of it! it'll never be the original, but its a great version nonetheless! it annoys me when i see someone with a voice like that rapping. Her voice is phenomenal when she sings, why rap? lol.

I agree with campbc; this song is definitly about the suffering of Africa, I think this song is playing a huge part for Bono's ONE campaign (which everyone should join) it's to help people understand poverty problems & global aids in other parts of the world.
And no, I don't really think this is a relationship song as many have thought it was.

I'm sure this has been said because there's about 50-billion posts on this song but I think it was meant to pertain to love as a general concept. As humans, the majority of us show some sort of love- whether in a romantic, familial, friendship or worldly way. A lot of us our lucky to experience it all. No matter your situation, this song is relatable.

This song is about Bono getting an erection over a 2 year old baby. When he says 'you ask me to enter and then you make me crawl', it is a metaphor for his child fetish. 'CRAWL' because babys crawl.

I see myspandexparadise i will not sink to your depraved level of insult, all i will say is anyone who would make a joke of the molestation of a baby hasn't the right to consider themself human. I know that comment won't effect you because you are clearly so detached for identifying what is right and wrong, the questioning of your mortality is irrelevent so let me clarify for you, someone stripping you of your right to be one with the rest of mankind is indeed the greatest insult of all, it seperates you from the ability to feel and be one with your own emotions andf indeed ones own mind therefore resulting in the inability to be loved. To be silenced from ones mind, for most people is just as painful as to being deprived of oxygen. This was a waste of my time as you are not enlightened enough to acknowledge nor understand what i have said nor will you ever have the emotinal intelligence necessary to form some saught of arguement. i pity you to be so isolated from your own mind it's unbelievably pathetic
