Find myself singing the same songs everyday
Ones that make me feel good
When things behing the smiles ain't okay

Around and over and in-between the seas
I need to be on top of a mountain
Where I can be see everything
Cause this paranoia's getting old

Now as I open my eyes to start another day
I'm in a pile of puke
Empty bag of execuses
My love for friends and family
you know I need them

And under a sun that's seen it all before
My feet are so cold
And I can't believe that I have to bang my head against this wall again
But the blows they have just a little more space in-between them
Gonna take a breath and try again.

General Comment:I feel this song is about failed and new attempts at sobriety. Being a junkie who is new to recovery, this song, as well as "Change," sums up everything that I'm thinking and feeling at this point. It's a tough battle that not everyone can overcome. All these years later I'm still angry that he is dead. Certain music speaks to your soul, and Blind Melon has always been one of those bands for me.

General Comment:Changing your mood through music, but everyday it becomes the same songs. Needing to overcome your troubles, and not live in a state of worry...But your addicted to drugs and it's the same story day after day for you (It's become a way of life). Tackling your issues a little at a time, and the pain starts to ease off but maybe it will never end and you just have to cope.

General Comment:Shannon was not a Herion addict even ought he proved Heroin before, he was not an addict to this drug, he had a Cocaine addiction and I think to Crack also, but when blind melon started he only used Weed and Mushrooms sometimes, I guess he start using Hard drugs after Blind Melon become Famous, but this is definitely my FAVORITE Band of all times, RIP SHannon Hoon, I love you dude wherever you are!!

General Comment:atommiller... well said. This song just helps me deal. I've been in that place so many times, where you just sit and ask yourself how many more times your family and friends will forgive you and how long they're going to still be there for you b/c you just can't seem to climb out of that hole. beldark, i agree with you too!!

I'm so happy to see that Shannon's songs still touch so many lives! He really touched lives forever with his words, didn't he! :o) It's been thirteen years and he we are!! :D All of the songs seem to have a sort of timeless quality to them, I can see myself listening to them thirteen years from now. :)

General Comment:This is probably my favorite song off of Soup. Although the drug allegory is obvious, it is also symbolic of the day to day struggle of everyday life. Every day I have to "...bang my head against this wall again..." Deeply moving lyrics. The real tragedy is that the untimely death of Shannon limited Blind Melons full potential.

General Comment:I can relate too, i'm sure this song strongly affects anyone who has struggled with addiction or has been close to someone that has. It brought tears to my eyes the first time I heard it. Shannon's premature death is the definition of tragedy.

General Comment:I don't know how many of you have struggled with addictions but, this song really makes me think about my drinking problem and my addiction to opiates, coke, pills, and pretty much every other drug you can think of. It really is a horrible feeling to know that you are killing yourself and all you can do is hide behind a smile.

General Comment:Great song...but sad. You can hear the struggle to fight the addiction. There is some hope in it when he says "...but the blows they have a little more space in between them" its as if he feels he is making some progress and there's some optimism. Man...its too bad he's gone...what a talent.
