Is this the place that I want to be
Is it you who I want to see
Holding on, hold it high, show me everything
And you're leaving me, yeah you're leaving me
You're leaving me with a hated identity

But I keep on a comin' here and standing in this state
And I'm never really sure if you'll take what I'm saying the right way
But I'm not appalled or afraid verbal pocket play
Is as discreet as I can muster up to be
Because the Cadillac that's sittin' in the back
It isn't me
Oh, no, no, no it isn't me
I'm more at home in my galaxie

Can I do the things I wanna do
That I don't do because of you
And I'll take a left and I'll second
guess into a total mess

And you're leaving me
And you're leaving me
you're leaving me with a hated identity

No no no no it isn't me
No no no no it isn't me
No it isn't me
I'm more at home in my galaxie

General Comment:Galaxie Is In Fact a Song about Shannon's First Love. It is also a Song about his 64' Ford Galaxie. The thing with Shannon is That Hardly any of His songs Contain only 1 subject matter. He liked mixing things up. The Galaxie was his Favorite Car (he Had atleast 5 Antique Cars), and The Line where he says "The Cadillac That's Sitting in the Back" is a reference to the 1970 Cadillac he owned. I have seen the house where he lived during the time this song was written, and there was an alley behind the house, and Shannon's Cadillac was Generally Parked Behind the house Near the Alley....

General Comment:The song is about his relationship with his girlfriend that was going bad. In the beginning he questions whether he wants to go on with the relationship "Is this the place that I wanna be, is it you I wanna see?" He feels like he is being painted as the bad guy, the one causing the relationship to fail "You're leaving me with a hated identity". But he has not give up yet "I keep on coming here and standing in this state". The next line "But I'm never really sure if you'll take what I'm saying the right way", is self explanatory. Anyone who's been in a bad relationship can identify with that sentiment. They have probelms communicating so talk around issues "..verbal pocket play.." He does not identify with his new found success (perhaps she wanted the success and he didn't) symbolized by the cadillac he bought but doesn't drive (The Cadillac that's sittin' in the back. It isn't me, no, no, no). He just wants to be his old self, before the success (I'm more at home in my Galaxie)

General Comment:It's about his first love, with a girl, not a car. He takes a left and seconded guesses himself into a mess (he's trying to hard, questioning every little thing) he's struggling. He doesn't quite know what to do or say. She leaves him thinking he's a jerk, maybe even heartless. She's wrong. He's kind, sweet, gentle, just afraid to fuck it up.

General Comment:I take all what you guys said about the Galaxie been what he is, and not the Cadillac, and I add my interpretation:

To me it's about an ex lover... he keeps on going there, standing in that state... he wants to see her, and tell her something, but he's really never sure if she will take it the right way. In addition, she's dating another man, a guy who drives a Cadillac. "But the Cadillac that's sittin' in the back, it isn't me, oh no no, no it isnt' me..." "no, it isn't me in my galaxie". He wishes he could be with his Galaxie in that place, but instead there's that Cadillac from some other guy.

Maybe the meaning I found to it is influenced by my own personal experiences, but that's how lyrics work in many cases, you can make them mean whatever you want. I liked the "lifestyle" interpretation from ALICEINNIRVANA.

Great tune, I've grown to love this band.

General Comment:I always got the impression that this song was about having doubts, but no one understands why. So you keep continuing your routines because everyone turns the deaf ear on you when you express your doubts.
I get the feeling that this song might be about fame and the band itself.

Sounds like a "you have it all" scenario, maybe Shannon had doubts about the band? When trying to explain why he had doubts he mights have sounded ungrateful and the band was offended and asked "what more do you want?". Making Shannon sound like the bad guy, hence "you're leaving me with a hated identity". Pure speculation of course!

But I also think the song is about not changing as a person because of success.

But in general terms I think this song is about: staying true to who you are, and being misunderstood when questioning something that is seen upon as being "good".

General Comment:I think he had pressure to go on tour and realized that he was losing his identity with the band and didn't want to go. Unfortunately he did go on tour, left his girlfriend and baby behind, and ended up dying. :(
At least he put his feelings into a song with a great message before it all ended.

General Comment:I sorta of see what you mean doki_pen
This song makes me believe that galaxie has a double meaning like one would be his Car and the other in his head like his world when he was high "I'm more at home in my galaxie" as if his altered reality is more molded to comfort then sobriety ever can be.
Its as if he could feel his sanity slipping away and when he would start to lose it. "It isn't me"
I have always loved blind melon for their incredible sound and just don't think it can be the same without Hoon

But now Hoon's up there watching from his Galaxie

General Comment:It's about being a drug addict and keeping a "low" lifestyle. A lifestyle associated with ppl of a lower class. Someone, probably a woman, wants him to straighten out and be upper class. He admits his true self is looked down on (hated identity). He's tried(he bought the cadi), but in this song he realizes that he has to be himself, a low class drug addict. His galaxie is the real-life symbol that lets him put into words how he feels. There is a lot of truth to it, but also a lot of denial. It sad is some ways.

General Comment:Well, blindmelon.org is generally right, as it's written from interviews of the band, about meanings of songs. It says that Shannon wrote this about his car, a 64 Galaxie that he LOVED. The passenger door wouldn't even open lol :) He wanted that car though, so he got it. He said he would ride around in it to clear his mind and that he could just climb in and all of a sudden it was like the radio only played his favorite old songs. Like a time machine! :) I think there's more to it though. I think he wrote this about his fans too. I really think he didn't believe he could write good music unless he was high. I think he felt like he had to get high to be loyal to his fans.

"Is this the place that I want to be
Is it you who I want to see
Holding on, hold it high, show me everything
And you're leaving me, yeah you're leaving me
you're leaving me with a hated identity"

I think that he knew he was dying, and he was torn between whether to get sober and live or to stay high for his fans (to have "good" music). He just didn't realize that he could've been just as great without the drugs, only he could've lived longer and made even more fantastic music. RIP Hoon, you were a FANTASTIC writer and singer!! :) We miss you!!
