I fear that I am ordinary, just like everyone
To lie here and die among the sorrows
Adrift among the days
For everything I ever said
And everything I've ever done is gone and dead
As all things must surely have to end
And great loves will one day have to part
I know that I am meant for this world

My life has been extraordinary
Blessed and cursed and won
Time heals but I'm forever broken
By and by the way...
Have you ever heard the words
I'm singing in these songs?
It's for the girl I've loved all along
Can a taste of love be so wrong?
As all things must surely have to end
And great loves will one day have to part
I know that I am meant for this world

And in my mind as I was floating
Far above the clouds
Some children laughed I'd fall for certain
For thinking that I'd live
Forever

But I knew exactly where I was
And I knew the meaning of it all
And I knew the distance to the sun
And I knew the echo that is love
And I knew the secrets in your spires
And I knew the emptiness of youth
And I knew the solitude of hearts
And I knew the murmurs of the soul

And the world is drawn into your hands
And the world is etched upon your heart
And the world so hard to understand
Is the world your can't live without

And I knew the silence of the world (x5)

Memory:Back in the 90's right after the keyboardist over-dosed and Jimmy was kicked out of the band, Billy brought on Filter's drummer, Matt Walker, to finish off the tour and possibly more.
Well, before they kicked off the remainder of the tour with Matt Walker, The Smashing Pumpkins announced to all the radio stations in Chicago one morning that they were having a free concert as a warm up at "The Metro". The concert was to start at noon. Well of course I left work and met a friend who was already standing in a line of thousands. Luckily he was near the front of the line since I don't think The Metro holds even 500 people.

They played an amazing show and the best part is that Billy and the entire band were very talkative to the fans/audience.

"Muzzle" in particular was one Billy said a little bit about. I think it was around the time he and his wife were separated and going through a divorce. He said, I wrote this next song [Muzzle] solely for my wife. She is here today (Gesturing to the direction of her). I'm sorry, I love you and I hope you understand. This is for you.

It was kind of a special moment and that's why I remember it so clearly. Ever since then, and while he sang the song, I think everyone in the place will forever understand more clearly what the song is about.

To me it sounds as if he's admitting to his own faults, fears and all that he has gone through in his life. She's ALWAYS been his love of his life but he can't change the past and realizes they must move on. All along he thought he knew it all, but in fact all he only really knew was that he loved this girl and he's sorry it's too late to fix.

    General Comment:Sounds like an epiphany.

    By definition:
a sudden, intuitive perception of or insight into the reality or essential meaning of something, usually initiated by some simple, homely, or commonplace occurrence or experience.

    or

a literary work or section of a work presenting, usually symbolically, such a moment of revelation and insight.

General Comment:Billy relating to the alienated youth, not as a rock star on a pedestal, but as ordinary as everyone. He knew what we were going through, because he lived a life of it. That's why we loved him.

"the world, so hard to understand...the world your can't live without...". Chokes me up every time.

General Comment:i kind of take it as just another perspective of the world, a place you're at where you understand it all, see everything falling into place. maybe a manic phase? some of the deepest places you can go - seeing things in the soul, your heart, the world connecting together. silence of the world - the quiet things in life that not many people access or seem to think about. idk if what i'm writing makes any sense or i'm articulating it well, but this song is great.

General Comment:I think BC is describing falling in love with life, himself, a girl despite all the pain there is for him in all this.
