I heard, I don't know if this is true, that Carly Simon wrote this song about Bob Dylan. Apparently they had an afair early in her carear and he broke her heart. This is her Revenge Song. Like I said, not sure if this is true.8-}

Quiltlynx. I don't think Bob Dylan ever dated Carly Simon. This song was written about Warren Beatty. Everything else you said is correct. >:)

I recall an interview in the '70's, Carly was asked if it was about Warren Beatty or Mick Jagger. She said it was about a compilation of men, not one particular one. That was her story then. Take it as seriously as you like. FYI: Mick Jagger sang backround vocals on this song.

Alright, I don't know WHO the song is about; but "clouds in my coffee" makes me think of the swirls that you get when you pour cream into coffee. They're fleeting but cool to watch. And in response to Sarou Booboo: I think that's the entire point. The song could be about anyone, but when this person hears it, they will immediately think that it is about them.. because they are vain. It's like when you put something in your Profile.. and everyone thinks that it was for them, like lyrics or a quote, but it wasn't for any of them.

You mean James Taylor OpinionHead, that's who sang "Fire and Rain".

Anyway, I think this song is about Mick Jagger, because my mom and I were talking about this song the other day and she said she saw an interview where Carly Simon said it was about Mick Jagger...and if you think about it, it does fit...

there are several people who it oculd be about. Carly Simon has actually said she won't publicly reveal who the person is, so beatlesfan4evr, the story of it being revelaed as Mick Jagger in an interview, although it's possible, is fabricated. Sorry!

I heard that some TV executive knows the exact meaning since paid 50 grand to get it told to him by Carly herself. It turns out the dude signed a confidentiality agreement, so nobody else will ever know the meaning about it. He did release one letter of the name. It was 'e', which fits all the above listed men. 'E' is also the first letter in evasive...go figure that one!

yeh thats true, she auctioned the meaning for charity i believe. i seriously doubt that 'evasive' has anything to do with it. if you no enough bout carly simon, u could probly narrow it down to only a couple of ppl, dpendin on wat she did with wat ppl.

This is a really good revenge song. :P It is about a guy who every one reckons is perfect & completly hot, but he is really a total ass-hole. I am sure alot of girls can really relate to it. Looks aren't everything girls...
I love it coz it was in "How to loose a guy in 10 days).

Simon married James Taylor a month before this was released. She has said that it is definitely not about him.

However, she doesn't rule out any other rumors/possibilities.

I think its about all of them or none of them at all, and i think the part
"you probably think this song about you" is saying all of you will think this song is about them, and its not, but they'll all think this because they're so vain. I love this song, its sooo good :)
