I woke the same as any other day
Except a voice was in my head
It said seize the day, pull the trigger,
Drop the blade
And watch the rolling heads
The day I tried to live
I stole a thousand beggar's change
And gave it to the rich
The day I tried to win
I dangled from the power lines
And let the martyrs stretch
Singing
One more time around
Might do it
One more time around
Might make it
One more time around
Might do it
One more time around
The day I tried to live
Words you say never seem
To live up to the ones
Inside your head
The lives we make
Never seem to ever get us anywhere
But dead
The day I tried to live
I wallowed in the blood and mud with
All the other pigs
I woke the same as any other day you know
I should have stayed in bed
The day I tried to win
I walled in the blood and mud with
All the other pigs
And I learned that I was a liar
Just like you
Except a voice was in my head
It said seize the day, pull the trigger,
Drop the blade
And watch the rolling heads
The day I tried to live
I stole a thousand beggar's change
And gave it to the rich
The day I tried to win
I dangled from the power lines
And let the martyrs stretch
Singing
One more time around
Might do it
One more time around
Might make it
One more time around
Might do it
One more time around
The day I tried to live
Words you say never seem
To live up to the ones
Inside your head
The lives we make
Never seem to ever get us anywhere
But dead
The day I tried to live
I wallowed in the blood and mud with
All the other pigs
I woke the same as any other day you know
I should have stayed in bed
The day I tried to win
I walled in the blood and mud with
All the other pigs
And I learned that I was a liar
Just like you

Except a voice was in my head
It said seize the day, pull the trigger,
Drop the blade
And watch the rolling heads
first part is saying that he wakes up, says fuck this, im doing something meaning full.
The day I tried to live
I stole a thousand beggar's change
And gave it to the rich
The day I tried to win
I dangled from the power lines
And let the martyrs stretch
Singing
he tryed to do right, but shit happened and his good intentions turned out to hurt people rather than help.
One more time around
Might do it
One more time around
Might make it
One more time around
Might do it
One more time around
The day I tried to live
he keeps trying and trying...never giving up, but its wearing on him
Words you say never seem
To live up to the ones
Inside your head
The lives we make
Never seem to ever get us anywhere
But dead
you want to say the truth..."your a D-bag", but what you say is "o, its ok man, i forgive you" also, it could be the good intentions gone bad theme again.
he then talks about how 99% of the lives people live dont really matter. the only thing that happins if you are born, go to school, go to work, retire, and die....nothign special or meaningfull
The day I tried to live
I wallowed in the blood and mud with
All the other pigs
he tryed to stop corruption, assholes, unfairniss, evil....but ended up being jsut like them
I woke the same as any other day you know
I should have stayed in bed
again, he wrote the song after words...so he is looking back and saying "fuck, i jsut made stuff worse, i should have stayed in bed and jsut let it be.
The day I tried to win
I walled in the blood and mud with
All the other pigs
And I learned that I was a liar
Just like you
again, he wanted good, but made evil. so he joined them, but not a joining like he is going to continue to be evil, he is saying that he did for the time, and that he lied to get his good goals done, but the peopel who he wanted to stop were also liers, so he feels just the same.
thats my take on the song. sometimes i get really tired and everything is clear. also, most of SG's songs, like nirvans are universiol songs...people have different expericences, so the meaning will be different, as the meaning of this song is not set in stone, its flexable...
and to all the retards that post on every nirvana and soem SG songs saying that its about herion...your wrong.
By accomplishing achievements for ourselves we inadvertently or consciously end up screwing someone else over. Often the cost of success is to become the person you once despised. No matter how many times we try to do it better this time, the result are inevitably just as bad as the last.
The last line turns the finger on the listener. He is trying to live up to an image expected by society, trying to appease judgement from other people.
Its reminds of desperately trying, trying, trying, only to have everything come crashing down on you while still struggling. Desperately hoping for things to come out good...only to fail again.
The music fits so well with the lyrics in this song.
Video is awesome also!
To seize the day, pull the trigger, and watch the rolling heads. Going against what hes always done.
This results in him stealing from the poor to give to the rich.
And become a danger for other good people who would give themselves up to save another. "I dangled from the power lines, and let the martyrs stretch."
"The day i tried to win" The man in the song has always been a good guy, and it always been said that the good guy never wins. So in response he will try to be the bad guy to win.
"One more time around might do it(make it)" I Believe this is the man thinking "ok ill make it back to my old self after one more time of doing something as a bad guy.
But when he thinks back he realizes that he has enjoyed becoming one of the pigs of society. Saying.
"Words you say never seem to live to the ones inside your head." he now knows that what hes always been doing and saying(being the good guy) is not what hes always thought of being.
Next he says "The lives we make never seem to get us anywhere but dead." he believes he is now living by doing what his mind is telling him to. That making up a life to live is not good and will make you dead inside.
"I walled in the blood and mud with all the other pigs." He has become a pig like the rest of society.
Then he regrets what he has done "I shouldve stayed in bed" Possibly wishing to go back to the good guy he once was, but knowing he cannot.
In the end the man learns that he is a liar. Just like the rest of us. Cornell sings this end to the song with a sigh of relief to it. Making me to believe that the man is ok with that end as long as he is not alone like he was before.
'Words you say never seem to live up to the ones inside your head....'
This part of the song summarizies Chris' intention, he woke up one day to the revelation of how out of integrity lives are lived...without real meaning, or purpose...going on lying to ourselves about who we really are and what we've all accomplished, or what we're willing to do. Paving a road of good intentions leads us to Hell- in one form or another- much like that of a bottom feeder - just like you.
Remember - it's all meaningless.
i think there is so much analyzing here, too much thinking.
the song says it much better! (nonverbally)
feeling defeated in life

In an interview I once saw, he admitted that though he has friends (after all, when you're this famous you obviously create an interest to your acquaintances) he tends to be alone. So at least in this period of time he probably felt that it's better to isolate himself from the outer brutal world.
In the day he tried to live he discovered a few things:
He acts the opposite of what the mainstream society expects him,
He gives up very quickly and let the others take the lead, while he crawls behind,
When he talks, he only tries to please the people around him by not telling them what he really thinks,
He finds that even when he's doing what's so called 'living', he'll still end up just the same as if he would'nt,
He saw that for achiving something you want you have to fight over this with others as if it was a piece of meat, and that you can't win without step over the others skulls.
After he's coming out of his bed and discovers all these stuffes, he regrets that he even tried.
Maybe it's better to stay in bed with the door locked and windows closed and let the world to slowly fall apart around you. to let the wolves bite their own brothers and hide yourself silently beneath the safe ground.
