Lyrics for Cavanaugh Park as interpreted by aur0ra

Cavanaugh Park Lyrics
At Cavanaugh Park
Where I used to sit
All alone in the dark
And dream about things
That I cannot say
you always said destiny would blow me away
And nothing's gonna blow me away

At Cavanaugh Park
Where you used to take me
To play in the sand
And said to me, "Son, one day you'll be a man.
"And men can do terrible things."
Yes they can

And there was never any place
For someone like me to be
Totally happy
I'm running out of clock and that
Ain't a shock
Some things never do change
Never do change

At Cavanaugh Park
We used to get high
Watching teams as they fought
They loved my friend Adam
But he always got caught
Man, that kid made fucking up look cool
Aren't we all so cool now? No

And there was never any place
For someone like me to be
Totally happy
I'm running out of clock and that
Ain't a shock
Some things never do change
Never do change

Never do change
Never do change
Never do change

At Cavanaugh Park
Where I used to think
That my life would be good
And I would do things
That I thought that I should
And no one's going to tear me down

And there was never any place
For someone like me to be
Totally happy
I'm running out of clock and that
Ain't a shock
Some things never do change

And there was never any place
For someone like me to be
Totally happy
I'm running out of clock and that
Ain't a shock
Some things never do change
Never do change
Never do change
Never do change

This song should not only be noted for the musical aspects, but for the underlying themes presented in the song. Take for instance the quote below:

At Cavanaugh Park
Where you used to take me
To play in the sand
And said to me, "Son, one day you'll be a man.
"And men can do terrible things."

Andrew (or whoever it is) is still young boy totally oblivious to the world around him and still has his childhood innocence. His dad is warning him that in life there is change and no matter how cute and innocent someone is when they're young, it does little to provide the foundation for who they become as seen in the next quote.

At Cavanaugh Park
We used to get high
Watching teams as they fought
They loved my friend Adam
But he always got caught
Man, that kid made fucking up look cool
Aren't we all so cool now? No

Andrew has now grown up and comes back to the park, somewhat aware of how the real world is. He's smoking up and getting in trouble and at the time he thought it was cool. Then the retorical question at the end of this verse plus the whole next one (At Cavanaugh Park/
Where I used to think/ That my life would be good) suggests he's grown up even more and realizes the dumb choices he has made in the past.

Throughout it all, Cavanaugh Park has been his refuge, his place for him to be solitary, alone with just his thoughts. Although Andrew is constantly changing, the park doesn't and remains there, all the while watching Andrew as he maturing and realizing the world is a pretty screwed up place. Although he has tried to do what is right, it is always deemed wrong somehow by society and he nows wonders if there ever is that "perfect life".

Cavanaugh park is a kick-ass song and Something Corporate are extremely gifted not only for their musical talent but for the ability to write deep meaningful lyrics.

This song is Something Corporate's version of every young band's inevitable "remembering adolescence" song. It's both touching and light-hearted and gets the point across quite well looking back on the band's more vulnerable years.

When I heard this song I actually thought it had to do with suicide. If you look at all the verses they all seem to point out the disapointments the singer has had to deal with in his life, the realization that things are never going to be what he thought they would. Then the chorus itself is just the singer saying he wants to kill himself. He's saying he's never been happy with his life, and he's at a point where he doesn't want to deal with the sorrow anymore.

This song is great, it just reminds me of him looking back at things of his childhood, remembering days and people , what they said that made some type of impact on his life small or big. And he feels that no matter where he goes now being an adult, he can't be totally happy, not as happy as he was growing up and he's saying that life goes by so fast that you sometimes forget how precious growing up and being young is, and the way life goes by isnt a shock because it's gone by so fast and it hasnt changed to moving at a slower pace

this band is freakin awesome. this song is like his place to sit and think about everything that is happening. sometimes when i want to go out and just be alone and think, i like to go to my "Cavanaugh Park" and just reflect on things. the CD is great, if you like at least one of their songs buy it.

I went to see SoCo a few weeks back and they played this as a tribute to Mr Rodgers. It was sweet but Andrew said Cavanaugh Park was some dank little park that he's never set foot in and only knows exsists because it was across the street from macdonalds o some place like that, lol. It's still a beautiful song though, one of the best.
