Lyrics for Cavanaugh Park as interpreted by aur0ra

Cavanaugh Park Lyrics
At Cavanaugh Park
Where I used to sit
All alone in the dark
And dream about things
That I cannot say
you always said destiny would blow me away
And nothing's gonna blow me away

At Cavanaugh Park
Where you used to take me
To play in the sand
And said to me, "Son, one day you'll be a man.
"And men can do terrible things."
Yes they can

And there was never any place
For someone like me to be
Totally happy
I'm running out of clock and that
Ain't a shock
Some things never do change
Never do change

At Cavanaugh Park
We used to get high
Watching teams as they fought
They loved my friend Adam
But he always got caught
Man, that kid made fucking up look cool
Aren't we all so cool now? No

And there was never any place
For someone like me to be
Totally happy
I'm running out of clock and that
Ain't a shock
Some things never do change
Never do change

Never do change
Never do change
Never do change

At Cavanaugh Park
Where I used to think
That my life would be good
And I would do things
That I thought that I should
And no one's going to tear me down

And there was never any place
For someone like me to be
Totally happy
I'm running out of clock and that
Ain't a shock
Some things never do change

And there was never any place
For someone like me to be
Totally happy
I'm running out of clock and that
Ain't a shock
Some things never do change
Never do change
Never do change
Never do change

I think this is about growing up, and how our perspectives change over time. And about learning to think for ourselves, and the weird feelings that come with growing up.

this song is amazing. It's one of the few soco songs with lyrics that are very straight forward-no trying to interpret exactly what the lyrics mean. The way it's written is very relatable, i think everyone gets the sense of viewing their own life the same way. basically, it's just taking a very honest look at growing up

i always used to think he sang "terribly happy" instead of "totally happy"
haha, oh well. its still a pretty good oxymoron

I saw Andrew play this live last weekend.
Best moment of my life :]
He said he wrote it about growing up, which was ironic cus he wrote it at age 16.
I think the meaning is pretty clear.

i will marry him :]

My favorite song by them. In high school we used to hang out in Kavanaugh in Little Rock. It is an amazing place, but none of us could really find complete happiness. The part about adam is so true about what happens in Kavanaugh LR.

this song is about a boy becoming a young man and abandoning all hope he once had when he was a child. he talks about the life lessons he recieved there. the chorus is very familar to many because the speaker feels as if he doensnt really fit or belong anywere except in this park. he talks of his friends and the times they spent in the park however he still can not grasp happiness. he does all that he can in his childhood to insure his own happiness however its never really secured. still the times that he sent there will keep things sacred for him.

there actually is a real park in Orange County (where the band is from) called Cavanaugh Park. It's in Lake Forest. i don't know if this is actually the park that Andrew was writing about, but there's a good possibility it is.

Again, I guess I am just in love with the music! I like the music in this song too. And The lyrics, it's like you can actually imagine him in the park! Something Corporate rocks, how nice to know now that lots of people know them!

This song doesn't just have to do with one part in the person's life, it has to do with his whole life and he grew up in this park he speaks of. When he was young he thought everything he was doing was okay and in the middle of the song where he mentions getting high, this must be around his teen years or close to it and he thought things were great and basically doing bad things were fun and cool but now that he's older and wiser, he realizes that it wasn't cool at all. Now he realizes that he wasted a lot of time and it's no surprise to him. This happens to all of us sometimes so some things never change...really.

I love this song. It goes through life from when he was a kid and then a teen and then how he is now.
"At Cavanaugh Park
We used to get high
Watching teams as they fought
They loved my friend Adam
But he always got caught
Man, that kid made fucking up look cool
Aren't we all so cool now? No"
That's my favorite

its funny
you write a song like this
thats amazing
then you put some heartfelt chorus in the middle

'And there was never any place
For someone like me to be
Totally happy'

and every kid on the PLANET will listen to the song on repeat for the rest of their lives self-confirming how terrible their life is and how alone they are in their depression.

hey, it worked for me. i dreamed of fucking cavanaugh park for weeks.

it's just one easy step to making an amazing song better; adding a generality everyone can relate to and cry about.

"oh no!! some things NEVER do change'

you could be thinking about a mean boyfriend.
or the fact that you're a fat shit.
or THAT BOY doesn't know you exist.
or your parents hate you.
or you have acme.
or you have no friends.
or you're just generally to emo to think of specifics.

listen to the music??
do you love it?
