I like Ville Valo and I honestly don't care what he does in his spare time. I like that he has a feminine look, I think it's rather hot actually... I also think the lyrics are intelligent and not crappy like some people whose comments I've read... Let me just get to my point, and yes, I have one; I LOVE THIS SONG!!!

this song means alot to me, to join someone in death, so romantic, and I think that the song that HIM made with the rasmus (don't like the rasmus much) and Apocalyptica is very nice both because Apocalyptica are in it, but Ville Valo's voive is just astonishing, and gives a very deep feeling to the song

you know the name him is funny, someone told me HIM means His Inferior Majesty, makes sense, but when people say: "him is nice" it sounds as if it's a grammar mistake :)

Hey Gonewiththesin i agree with you-well its all true so yeah but, you really know youre HIM lol. rock on theyr the best band in the world!
for other people... ville is not a satanist, he was born and raised a pagan, he says it on the DVD for the video collection...and he also says (about a million times) he likes to add the darkness to the light and things like love with death, good and evil ect... i agree with him, tere isnt one without the other

Thank you Diet Punk Rock for clearing that up for all the IDIOTS who for some reason, have a problem with Ville Valo! Anyway, to further comment on the song, I think this is about (duh) a couple who have nothing but each other, and in order to stay that way, they want to commit suicide and be with each other "in death." Very romantic, yet very sad since this song is close to my heart. Yet, I agree, you can't have love without death... They go hand in hand.

HIM are the best band i have ever encountered. I mean there music is fantastic and when you look at there songs in deph they can be truelly touching. How could anyone possibly say that they havnt got good music. They have a unique style and yeah there the best.......

This song is nothing new. It's basically a Romeo & Juliet situation. I think that's why this song became so popular in America and created all these little American HIM fans. We're suckers for a classic love story. Teenagers especially become melodramatic when it comes to the subject of love. The lyrics are NOT in any way intelligent. There are a million songs just like it. But that's why we love it. It spells out universal sentiments that seem oddly personal at the same time.
I think this song has some The Cure elements that are most appealing.

This song is very Shakespear-esque if you think about it. Very much along the lines of Romeo and Juliet. They can't be together so they die for love. That way in the end they win and are together. Either way Ville Valo makes me giddy. I heart H.I.M!

nice double post, the system. I honestly want to know how many of the people posting here were fans of HIM before Bam whored out their music and logo. I cannot believe some of you are CRYING because of a song about 2 lovers who want to kill themselves. I agree with many that Ville is pretty damn ugly. I also want to know what makes HIM so good. The only thing I can think of is the dark-ish sound and the over-used church choir voices. The guitar work in 90% of their songs is tired. The drums are mediocre. I find it funny that people run out of clever or original things to say so they post insults and curses.

Sounds like he's trying to sub-conciously convince people to do things. This time being suicide with a girlfriend, wife, husband, or boyfriend. These aren't emotional; they are disuised hatred. No, they aren't. Their music isn't even gothic rock. HIM classifies it as "Love Metal" which is a combination of highly emotional love songs, and rock. If you'd take the time to look through things, you'd see Ville Valo is not satanic. He has said this on very, very many occasions, which are referenced on many websites.

"HIM is just gothic, 666, I want to kill myself garbage"

I'm not even going to comment on this. Whoever says this doesn't know HIM.

Lastly, I'm going to post the ACTUAL meaning of Join Me.

Translation: We are young, and niave, not knowing truly what love is or if we are in love, but we're still willing to give everything for eachother.

and we've waited for so long
for this moment to come
we're so anxious to be together
together in death

Translation: We do know what love is, now, and we want to be together, forever in eternity. This is NOT saying that we want to kill ourselves, you idiots. It's saying they want to be together for the rest of their lives. Hence, "together in death" means they wish to be together 'till death do them part.

Translation: This is a metaphore. This is basically saying "Won't you give everything for our love?"

This world is a cruel place

Translation: If you really look at this lyric, you'll see it isn't about suicide. It's saying that our lives are lived out only for despair. But, death has granted us a second chance, and before life has reached the peak of despair, I found you.

This life ain't worth living

Translation: Our lives are not worth living unless we are together.

This entire song, as far as I can see, the two lovers in it have not actually gotten together. One is just singing about their love for eachother, but they aren't together, which explains the last lyric. Thus, this is merely a song saying they want to be together UNTIL death, not together, then kill themselves.
