I need a catalyst, to rekindle the flame
That once burned within these fists where defeat remains

The night has fallen down the staircase...

I need a catalyst, to rekindle the flame
That once burned within these fists where defeat remains
One Februrary night, we screamed our agonies
And I swear I tried to care
I tried, I tried...

But the icicles hung down like prison bars...

I need a catalyst, to rekindle the flame
That once burned within these fists where defeat remains
One Februrary night, we screamed our agonies
And I swear I tried to care
I tried, I tried...
(And) I lost the will to fight...
The will to fight...
(I lost the will to fight... I lost the will to fight... I lost it... I lost it...
I lost the will to fight.)

General Comment:no offense, but it's pure sacrilege to have put a chris carabba post on this board. this song is about a relationship that has deteriorated up to the point where fighting becomes completely draining. this song is once again carrying on the theme of tim's failed marriage

General Comment:The singer is in a relationship gone wrong, that's obvious. Not exactly gone wrong, but deteriorating, and he doesn't have the desire anymore to hold on and try to make it work.

General Comment:Wow. This song is beautiful.

Today I was feeling real sad and just terrible.
Exactly last year around this month I became really
depressed and it was just terrible and after that everything's just been really bad for me. It's still pretty bad. But yeah. Well, I was walking home from school and I was listening to this song and it just described that situation so well. It even says, "One February night..." So, yeah. This song means a lot to me. I can completely relate to it. Very good song. A few lyrics but they're very powerful and touching.

General Comment:i've always thought of it as he loses the will to fight for the relationship. and also not that he loses the will to fight so he just becomes submissive and trapped but he's lost the will to fight anymore so there's no point in going on.

"but the icicles hung down like prison bars" is past tense so i'm not sure it's that he remains trapped as much as it was the there was no getting out of the situation other than ending it completely.

General Comment:haha keep dashboard and cursive separate, please. this chris person doesn't have half the songwriting ability that tim kasher does, and if he did, he couldn't do songs half as good as cursive does them. amazing band. i'm in love.

General Comment:i'm going to put in my two cents on the song. again, looking at the whole album plot/storyline thing, this song is literally about the night sweetie loses the will to fight, told from his POV. sweetie has given up and left himself trapped/buried/imprisoned in the failed relationship, hence the 'icicles hung down like prison bars' bit. sweetie is so tired that he doesn't want to bother anymore. it's like one of those things where the situation sux but he's just too tired to try to change it.

also, chris dashboard wuss guy is horrible. listen to some good singer-songwriters... like ummm... oh! bob dylan or paul simon, jonah matranga, stuff like that.
