Lyrics for Champagne Supernova as interpreted by kevin

Champagne Supernova Lyrics
How many special people change
How many lives are living strange
Where were you while we were getting high?
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannon ball
Where were you while we were getting high?

Some day you will find me
Caught beneath a landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath a landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova in the sky

Wake up the dawn and ask her why
A dreamer dreams she never dies
Wipe that tear away now from your eye
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannon ball
Where were you while we were getting high?

Some day you will find me
Caught beneath a landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath a landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova

'cause people believe that they're
Gonna get away for the summer
But you and I, we'll never die
The world's still spinning round
We don't know why
Why, why, why, why

How many special people change
How many lives are living strange
Where were you while we were getting high?
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannon ball
Where were you while we were getting high?

Some day you will find me
Caught beneath a landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath a landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova

'cause people believe that they're
Gonna get away for the summer
But you and I, we'll never die
The world's still spinning round
We don't know why
Why, why, why, why

How many special people change
How many lives are living strange
Where were you while we were getting high?
We were getting high
We were getting high
We were getting high
We were getting high
We were getting high
We were getting high
We were getting high
We were getting high
We were getting high

It's one of those songs that really have no upfront meaning. It means somthing different to everyone else. Everyone can relete to it becuase it gives you that feeling. I know my friend just likes the lryics, and I'm in love with the song becuase it reminds me of a guy that i'm in head-over-heals in love with, who dosn't feel the same. Does that mean it is what the song is about? Probally not, but that is what it reminds ME of.

for some weird reason I interpret this song to be about how people change and mature, everyone except the singer. like "where were you while we were getting high?" can be in a literal sense and "slowly walking down the hall faster than a cannon ball" is like trying to avoid talking to you. sometimes you walk slow to avoid someone in the hall and sometimes you have to walk fast. "someday you will find me caught beneath the landslide" can be like someday you will find me in a bad predicament. "wake up the dawn and ask her why a dreamer dreams she never dies wipe that tear away now from your eye" could be like asking why people always dream and move move on with their life, like why do they have a plan when the performer doesnt have one and because the performer doesn't have one they cry from feeling empty. "cause people belive that they're gunna get away for the summer but you and I will never die the world's still spinning round" could mean that people think they're going to get away from the performer but their friendship will never die they've been through too much but of course the world will still spin and that it's not the end of the world. That might have been pretty confusing but that's my, sort of, interpretation of it...

to continue with the "where were you when we were getting high" is like you've become too mature to get high now....yeah...better explaination then it's literal

This song reminds me of a best friend I had who was into a lot of bad things at a young age but then she went to a christian recruiting camp and I miss that crazy part of her. Everytime I hear "where were you while we were getting high?" It reminds me of the time when she was a free-spirit, and how much I want my friend back. I guess God gets the best of us sometimes.

Wow, the meaning is so obvious if you just take the time to read between the lines. Here, I'll spell it out for anyone who doens't understand the lyrics:

"How many special people change"
Where "special" means "unique" and "change" means "not change".

"How many lives are living strange"
This is referring to people without jobs. Why, I'm not certain, but that's what he's saying.

"Where were you while we were getting high?"
Of course, this line is all about being a jobless junky.

"Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannon ball"
Contrary to what the writer claims this in reference to, this is actually about how bad of a bowler his girlfriend is. She can't even roll the ball fast enough to knock down the pins, which is much slower than a slow walking speed.

"Where were you while we were getting high?"
This time, this same line is referring to mountain climbing. If you've ever been mountain climbing, you would know that it's easy to get home sick at higher altitudes.

"Some day you will find me
Caught beneath a landslide"
This line is more like "when it rains it pours", as in, you always seem to be around during my darkest hour.

"In a champagne supernova in the sky"
Champagne supernova is actually the name of all the little bubbles that happen when you cork a bottle of champagne. What he means about being in the sky is, after he dies, he will become a constellation of scattered stars, like so many bubbles in a champagne bottle.

"Wake up the dawn and ask her why"
Here we have a line about pissing your girlfriend off in the morning. If you've ever woken up in the morning and started asking your girlfriend any questions, you would know what I'm talking about.

"A dreamer dreams she never dies"
Obviously about personal trauma from early childhood. Possibly about drowning or suffocating in some way as an infant.

"Wipe that tear away now from your eye"
This is really just a nice way of saying "STFU bitch or I'll give you something to cry about."

"'cause people believe that they're
Gonna get away for the summer"
This is a feel good verse that is actually designed to make you bad because no one over the age of 22 really gets a summer vacation.

"But you and I, we'll never die
The world's still spinning round
We don't know why
Why, why, why, why"
Finally, this verse can be interpreted as "catch all" for anything and everything that is confusing about this song.

ssoltero hit it pretty spot on.
Except the line about "Where were you while we were getting high?"
This was a joke between the writer and his buddies, it is a satire about parents asking their kids where they were (while the kids were out getting high) so they ask each other this, poking fun at authority.

I don't remember who the fuck was bitching about this song having no meaning, jumpyjack or w.e the fuck its not important. This songs meaning is crystal clear. Have you ever gotten high with a group of people, people so important to you that if they died you'd be fucking broken. Yeah well in this song, one of those people fucking missed a session. And the guys fuckin confused as fuck because he thought it was fucking special. He sees people changing and i guess they're cleaning up and he hates watching it happen. But i think that the guy still has one more guy there that hasn't changed. One that has stuck with him. "But you and I we'll never die". So jumpyjack fuck face. Obviously you have no idea or thought process because you are a fucking robot and you get "high" im assuming just for the fuck of it. While other people, think its the greatest fucking thing in the world to be around the people you love.

I think its about taking the good with the bad

i mean
"wake up the dawn and ask her why, a dreamer dreams she never dies"
its about the fact some people have their head stuck in the clouds, so when they have something bad happen it seems awful

then theres
"where were you why we were getting high"
i think thats about people who can't enjoy themselves, so nothing seems fun

and those two are pretty much the opposite of eachother
just like "slowly" walking down a hall, "faster" than a connon ball

an oxymoron.

and theres champagne = one of the finest things on earth
and supernova the death of a star AKA something brilliant

so i think its about the fact that in the end, "in the sky" (when you're dead) the bad and good come together "champagne supernova" and they meet. and when two extreme opposites merge, it creates nothing

so i think its about taking everything as it is, because if you don't, in the end, you'll have nothing & you'll just have only tasted half of life

But you and I, we'll never die
The world's still spinning round
We don't know why
Why, why, why, why

the world's spinning
everything is normal
but normal is normal and we don't know why that is, we just have to take it as it is
while we can

i know it sounds confusing, i couldn't find the words, but the song finds them for me

to me this song makes me think about youth and how sometimes people are to busy to just enjoy being young. I think the lines "where were you when we were getting high?" is just a euphanism for being young and not enjoying youth because you are to busy worrying about your future. This song is very trippy and chill. I like it

I think this song is about fame and how it changes people ("how many special people change?"). I think the line "Where were you while we were getting high?" are showing how many "stars" turn to drugs. The lines "Slowly walking down the hall, Faster than a cannon ball" mean that fame seems like it lasts forever but it really happens very quickly. Then, when you do something wrong and crash and burn, everyone will know ("Someday you will find me, Caught beneath a landslide, In a champagne supernova in the sky"). I think the second verse means that famous people believe that they're invincible and above others. Then, the lines:

"Cause people believe that they're
Gonna get away for the summer
But you and I, we'll never die
The world's still spinning round
We don't know why
Why, why, why, why"

...I think those mean that some people think they are above others, like most famous people, but really we're all just people, and we all live and die and the world keeps spinning 'round with or without us.

I don't think Noel wrote this song to really mean anything, but this is just how I interpret it =]

Might be about if the singer was "getting high" and then he'll end up in a landslide in a champagne supernova, where everything he did before just collapsed onto him because he wasn't really doing anything, and the person he's singing to went off to be successful. It's a bit like two childhood friends, one ends up being successful and the other ends up somewhere terrible, and needs help from the other.

My interpretation of this song is simple, that it's about pot. And slowly walking down a hall, faster than a cannonball is something that can only be done when you're high.

The exception is this:
"But you and I, We live and die.
The world's still spinning round we don't know why
Why, why why."

To me, that lyric means that we all live a temporary life on this world and we don't know what the purpose of it is.

okay well I'm going to start off by saying this song is awesome (Y). And well to me this song is about how someone is moving forwards in their life and slowly changing and leaving their friends behind * how many special people change* and *where were you while we were getting high?*

This has to be the best totally-high-as-a-kite out song ever. As to meaning, I am not sure it can have any real meaning, as he is clearly so spaced out, but the wonderful "constructive tension" of the opposites is fabulous. "Slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannonball" - I am not sure that it needs any more meaning than the perfect contradiction.

And "Someday you will find me caught beneath the landslide, in a champagne supernova in the sky" is surely about how one day the drugs will overtake him, and he will be both high and dying. Which, TBH, is quite likely.

But for me the music and the musical quality of the lyrics make this song brilliant.

i just heard this song today after not hearing it for years. its a great song, regardless of the meaning. the greatness of this song to me comes from the personal memories it brings back. i was 14 or so when i heard this. and im thinking about life at 14, things that i forgot, and look at life now at 26 and the whole new set of challenges i have as an adult. so many different things ran through my head when i heard things song, but my mood shifted from mild depression to a nostalgia that brought backs memories from days gone by. i love the power of music! hope this all makes sense. first time posting.

ssoltero ,

Mountain climbing? bubbles? waking up your girlfriend and annoying her?

Sorry, I think thats way of the mark.
My opinion is that Noel is just writing about how when they were young and getting high (pink champagne is a type of amphetamine btw) and people start leaving the group and moving on and growing up

maybe he addresses the line "where were when we were gettin high" to a girl, he himself just wastes his life getting drunk/stoned/needled whatever, but he wishes she be his, so that he does not get high
